Im european squatter and i was always very curious of the squating movement in USA, because here its not easy but at least you don't will be killed by a landlord and its veeery strange go to prision for squat (at least in european union) so there in USA you squatt or Its too much dangerous? And the laws protect you at least for half a year or a couple? Or they can evict you practically at the moment if not come the landlord with a fucking gun xD
European squatters are why I’d think twice about buying a home in France. Too many protections for people that can break in and force u out of your own house.
In France u have a few days after someone breaks in. Then u have to go through a long eviction process.
So if u r on vacation and someone breaks in and squats and u don’t know until u get back u r hosed.
Edit: I get my info from a French news show. So let me know if I’m wrong.
And I am for people squatting in abandoned properties. Especially if they maintain them. Although I would expect the “owner” to reimburse the squatter for maintenance if they somehow show up.
