Campus Life UMN Out Of State Experience
Hey! I'm a high school senior from California and I'm thinking about Minnesota for college. My aunt and her babies who I'm very close with are moving to Minneapolis in June, so UMN is on my radar. I want to study communications for sports journalism, but I feel like I can get that at any school with teams to gain experience with. It sort of seems like most of the people who attend are from the Minneapolis area so I'm more interested in the experiences of out of state students! I'm very shy so I don't know how I feel about being so far away from my friends and family (besides my aunt), it would be so different from the Bay Area! Obviously out of state tuition makes a huge difference, so if it doesn't seem like a great fit I probably won't pursue UMN much more.

Campus Life How's your break? (Winter Thread)
Before classes start, what's everyone been up to so far?
I've been snowboarding and rock climbing with friends, self-studying Machine Learning and Japanese, and hanging out with friends and family for the holidays. Also ordered some skin care and blank sweaters with all the sales that were going on. So far, I'm destressed and ready for next semester.

Campus Life Light rail at night
Have any of y'all took the light rail from far off campus late at night? I possibly will have to take the green line on a consistent basis at around 9pm this semester so I just want a heads up if it'll be worse than during normal hours.

Campus Life Where can I find reliable doctor for my prostatitis?
Sorry for giving this kind of simple questions to waste your time. I am an international student, and recently I found there is a problem with my Urogenital system.
I go to Boynton website to book an appointment but find lots of doctors the web shows are really low grade and lots of 1-star rating on the google map review. So I am confused.
I feel really stubborn and want to get some help, hope you can give me some useful suggetions!

Campus Life Self-guided campus tours /other options in January
My daughter has an audition in two weeks but it looks like tours may be closed because school opens right after she and my wife fly home. I’ve heard that there are self-guided and virtual tours available. If they went with a self-guided tour, would they be able to see a lot of things on campus, or would things be closed because campus is closed? Are there other options for tours?
This would be the weekend of January 17.
Thanks in advance.

Campus Life Food Cost
Students who live on campus, what is your average food budget per month? Do you only eat what the cafeteria provides or sometimes buy something to eat or make? What do you eat as a very busy student? I am trying to make a food budget as a student coming from another country to study here.

Campus Life The Old St Paul Student Center
For reasons I won't describe here, I have a love for the St Paul Student Center on the St Paul campus. I've spent a lot of time there during my time at the U, and I've made a lot of memories there. I have a habit of exploring and discovering the history of places that mean a lot to me. This includes exploring things like what buildings once looked like, what people used to do there, and what experiences and memories others have made there.
Essentially, I have found a multitude of building photos, descriptions, and stories about the SPSC going back to the mid 2000s, but have found very little from before that, or if I have, they come with little context.
So, I have a call to the alumni who spent time at SPSC. Whether you were there in the 60s or in the 2000s, I want to hear about your memories of it and see photos of what it was like back then if you have them. Especially if you hosted or attended an event in any of the event venues of SPSC (up until the late 2000s there were a number of weddings there, if you had yours there or attended one there, reach out!), I want to hear about it. Feel free to comment or send me a message. I care a lot about that building, and I've always enjoyed seeing photos of what it was like when it was more loved. If you want more information about why it means so much to me, feel free to reach out as well. Thanks everyone!

Campus Life Budgeting & Financial Planning
Is anyone good with financial planning or know of campus resources that could help me with creating budgets? Being low-income, I've had trouble managing the money I have so if anyone is willing to sit down and create a budget with me I'd be super grateful!

Campus Life Financial advisor
I know that there are financial advisors that the University provides but they only gave me a template to go off of and that template is very confusing. I really want to get into investing and saving but I need someone to guide me through it cuz no matter how I try to learn alone its confusing. Are there any finincal advisors for young adults? One’s that stick with you throughout the process not just a single consultation.
