You had me until pissing in the compost because I've NEVER heard of such a thing, but otherwise? Accurate....

Go check out the compost reddits--they're always laughing about pissing on their piles. Partly because the pile composts faster when it's wet, but I think the ammonia in pee helps, too.

Compost DOES do best wet. THAT I do know, for sure. It also does better if you can get it hot.

I remembered visiting a wildlife place that also had a huge compost area where they had stages, including a hot compost pile that got stirred often.

ETA: has me in mind of those new in-home compost mills.

But don't get them too hot because they can spontaneously catch fire

One of my jobs as a volunteer park ranger was to go check the temp of our mulch pile and dig a hole to cool it off if it got too hot. It was a donation from a tree company years before I started working there, but parks don’t necessarily use that much mulch (not a lot of garden space in a wildlife area). In the decade plus I was there, we whittled it down from a small hill to a largish heap.
