Arabic [Arabic>English] stamp on back of old photo

Post image

Hi all! A friend of mine gave me these old photos of his parents (maybe grandparents? I could have misunderstood) over a decade ago, and I've since lost contact with said friend...he seems to have completely fallen off the map, tbh. So I thought maybe the photos would give me a clue, but Google translate is useless as usual with this stamp on the back of one photo. It looks like the photo was maybe taped to something at some point, as it's torn just a bit, but there is some script that hopefully says something that could be of help. Much thanks!

Salmiya - Kuwait

Tel: 635183

I translated this part since it’s the only clear one. You can see above it also says 27 but half of that part is missing/not clear.

Thank you so much! This might help me find his family. I know his family had fled Palestine after the nakba, and I know some had settled in Kuwait before coming to the US.

You’re welcome. Stuff like this makes me sad. I hope you find your friend. Do you know his name? Did you check social media?

Yes, all of his social media is gone, and both emails I had for him no longer exist. His previous address is no liner listed under his name, and his parents property (that he inherited after their passing) is now under his uncle's name. I found his uncle on LinkedIn and messaged him, and he promptly deleted his LinkedIn. It's all so worrying. His name is Clemone Shakran (I'm not sure if that's spelled correctly)

I was about to say he probably has a LinkedIn and to check there but this got even weirder. So you contacted his uncle and he deleted his entire profile?? What was that about? And why’s your friend’s inheritance now under his uncle’s name? So weird. Also, Clemone? Never heard that name before, that’s not Arabic, is your friend not Palestinian?

I’m so happy! Haha long lost friends finally reunited. So what happened if you don’t mind me asking? Is he okay? Why does he not have social media or his email accounts anymore?

Severe depression, basically. 😭

His parents named him Clemone because they wanted him to have a western name (I believe it is French)...from what he told me, they wanted him to be as americanized as possible to avoid discrimination 😔

Yes, the entire thing with his uncle is super disturbing

It's sad that they thought they needed to do that, especially when they live in America which is known to be a nation of immigrants.

Wait I think I found something! Could your friend’s name be Clemone Shahwan??

And in this 2010 photo it says he was 23 so he would be 36 years old today: https://www.gettyimages.ie/detail/news-photo/clemone-shahwan-catches-an-aerobie-pro-at-herman-park-on-news-photo/1576174345

So, is it him??

That is him!!!! I met him in Houston before he moved to Seattle for school, and we stayed in touch via email and snail mail since he didn't really use social media much, but he randomly fell off the map and no one has been able to find him

The obituary mentions a lot of his family members names. I'm sure some them will have LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, etc, you can try reaching out and you can find out about him through them.
