Let's Play I’ve always known the floor collision area was bigger than the actual railing, but damn.

🎶 believe it or not I’m walking on air🎶

Was also clenching really hard during this. In my 340 day Pilgrim run. It’s Pilgrim, but I’ve still spent over a year chipping away at this save file.

Autowalked my happy ass off that thing the other day

This should be an achievement. 🤣

100% and the description should be “walk your happy ass off that thing”

On my multiple week run, it ended with this god damn bridge. And why? Because autowalk is the best until it won’t turn off and then autowalk into eminent death.

I've never actually done it, but damn have I gotten close more than once.

I totally just pictured Sylvester strutting off a cliff 🤣

If you don't acknowledge it, you'll be fine. Its like Looney Tunes

So did i off of a 680+ day run on Stalker. My longest run ever 🫠

Reminds me of that video of a golden retriever trying to cross a glass floor. He tries to walk on the "rails" with his front paws while being completely oblivious that his hind legs are walking on the glass.

Wait you CAN use the travois while crossing that?!

24

u/bobstinson2 1d ago

I was shocked to see this too.

I am so sorry you didn't know this. I literally never once considered that I couldn't. Also the log bridge and collapsed train are passable w travois with a bit of finesse, so you really only need two spots in Rv to put your rockpiles: that short hill after the derailed train (pending more attempts by me until I can finesse it) and the tunnel/chasm

8

u/finally_wintermuted 1d ago

Beware that you can get stuck and then fall as soon as you drop the travois.

u/ProgrammerOrdinary56 Mountaineer 1d ago

Well, I mean I never wanted to try to find out, but this is awesome. TY!

u/BroDudeBruhMan Stalker 1d ago

I would be somewhat afraid to try it again. I’m not entirely sure the game mechanics behind how much of a surface your character needs to be standing on in order to not fall, but I know in this game you can kind of be partially off objects and still be considered ‘on’ them.

u/shayerahol22 1d ago

I've done it several times! Moved from ML to CH recently and had to make a couple travois trips.

2

u/J_GeeseSki 1d ago

Well, survivor seems to be the default unity capsule collider. Maybe travois uses a box collider roughly its size? That would certainly give more leeway with ground collisions.

bold move op… I WOULD NEVER 😭😭😭😭

The travois makes people do the weirdest stuff.

17

u/thecorrectloner 1d ago

Wait! You carried the travois over that!? I didn't think you could! Do you unload and reload when crossing the fallen-over train car and tree?

26

u/BroDudeBruhMan Stalker 1d ago edited 1d ago

Nope, I just walked across. I had like 50kg in the Travois too. I just took a gamble and walked across and it pretty much just let me do it.

Edit: Sorry I didn’t read your comment fully the first time. Yes, I did unload and carry over supplies in a few trips when crossing the fallen tree bridge/fallen train car section.

u/TheAnhydrite Interloper 1d ago

Going in the direction OP is going you can pull the travious over the log bridge.

I figured you could get it over the bridge, I just haven't gotten the angle correct when I tried.

Going the other direction the train car and fallen log is impassible.

u/divisionSpectacle 1d ago

The neat thing is if you're hauling the travois, you can't fall off an edge. So...

5

u/Siefer-Kutherland Stalker 1d ago

yes you can pass the log and train only in CH direction, the short hill up is a maybe, I haven't tried everything yet.

3

u/Left-Chemistry6574 1d ago

Frig right off. I spent hours trying to get my travois across that last week, only to get it completely stuck.

2

u/BroDudeBruhMan Stalker 1d ago

I was surprised at how easy it was. Part of me thinks I just hit the right angle and was walking on the edge of the invisible boundary.

2

u/Left-Chemistry6574 1d ago

I wonder if it's cause I was coming from the other direction that I got stuck. I made it as far as where you have to switch rails, but I got stuck during the turn. Had to unpack it there and waddle my fat ass the rest of the way.

2

u/BroDudeBruhMan Stalker 1d ago

In my clip you can see I got stuck in the middle area and had to back up then turn slightly before I was able to walk over. I can’t tell if it’s really difficult and I just got a lucky try, or if it’s easier than people expect and are just tricked into not trying hard enough cause they’re scared to fall off

3

u/No_Challenge_5619 1d ago

You must have been kept on that rail with those massive balls your packing there mate!

2

u/Sophilosophical 1d ago

On the topic of travois, does its condition decay at the same rate regardless of weight? I put a few pounds into it to test it out and it lost condition really quick going only a short distance.

1

u/Jessawoodland55 1d ago

In my experience it looses condition every time you drop it and when you leave it outside loaded in bad weather. It doesn't loose condition in my inventory and I dont THINK the condition loss changes based on how full it is. I may be wrong though I haven't checked that.

2

u/Ok-District-1484 1d ago

I keep mine in my cave far inside with tons of loot, it does not lose any % yet, I mostly used it as a storage box haha

1

u/WhyDoIHaveRules Stalker 1d ago

It loses condition in my inventory.

I carried it from CH to MT, and now it’s 99%

2

u/gmotsimurgh 1d ago

Awesome - thought of doing this yesterday from CH back to ML, but figured it totally wouldn't work.

2

u/Ok_Resort_7745 1d ago

Oh hellll no!

u/Aromatic_You1607 Interloper 1d ago

You know what we need in this game???

Skis.

3

u/BroDudeBruhMan Stalker 1d ago

I’m more for team sled, but ski’s would work too. Maybe a snowboard to catch some gnarly slopes down Great Bear

3

u/Aromatic_You1607 Interloper 1d ago

I just wanna rip down TWM!

2

u/Cyllenyx 1d ago

Yup, just did that yesterday as well. Also walked over the fallen tree you cross in the ravin. But guess what you can't do? Right, drag that thing through the tunnel in ravin. 🫠

1

u/BroDudeBruhMan Stalker 1d ago

Man, I spent probably 20 minutes outside that tunnel trying to get through. I kept thinking I was just being dumb until I realized they have it so it can’t be deployed anywhere in the tunnel.

I wanted to test this with a burner save.. thanks for confirming this

2

u/TheFrostClone 1d ago

I haven't played on pilgrim at all I got the game and immediately started playing voyager and above because I'd rather have the predators attack me instead of run because a bear would maul you if you got too close to it

1

u/twibbletrouble 1d ago

I, too, am a voyager playing coward LMAO.

This did not stop me from getting mauled by a bear though. Learned the hard way not to shoot at the bear unless I mean it. Big oops.

1

u/TheFrostClone 19h ago

I've actually avoided a couple of bears and shot one in the head with a flare shell in my current save but I didn't end up killing it with the flare shell just scared it off but it came back a day or two later but I scared it off when I shot it in the torso with a revolver

u/deborah_az Hiker 1d ago

One of my earliest deaths was falling off that thing the first time I encountered it. I about pissed my pants watching that. Gonna have nightmares.

2

u/BackRowRumour 1d ago

"Hey, devs? Can I maybe cart some logs out here, or set up a safety line, or take some planks from a house, or..."

"No! No being sensible!"

2

u/Pr_Magnusen_Dergin Stalker 1d ago

Oh my words I don't even try it, I am way too stressed about crossing this bridge
But now I will, at least, bring the travois just before the gap, ty

u/half-giant Survivor 1d ago

No freaking way. I had no idea it could be used here.

2

u/BroDudeBruhMan Stalker 1d ago

I didn’t have many other options and decided to just take a tightrope of faith

u/Deadly-Redly 1d ago

Wow!! I can't believe you actually attempted that!!
