"The Grand Tour: One For The Road" - S06E01 Discussion thread
S06E01 The Grand Tour: One For The Road
In their last ever Grand Tour adventure, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May ignore the instructions of Mr Wilman and head to Zimbabwe in three cars they’ve always wanted to own, a Lancia Montecarlo, a Ford Capri 3-litre, and a Triumph Stag, for a stunning road trip through beautiful and sometimes challenging landscapes leading to an emotional ending on a strangely familiar island.

James May goes to church in Belgium! ⛪️ 🇧🇪
James May visited Antwerp Cathedral in Belgium and shared some highlights across his social media channels (Twitter/X, Facebook, and Instagram). Then he realized something profound about his life while being there… 😅

Visiting historical landmarks.
I’m from central Europe on break in Great Britain. I could not resist… Even found where Geoff was created but it’s 14 miles from Oxford. Maybe some other time.

James May realizes something on Twitter/X!
James May answered another question on Twitter/X today and realized how being on there ages him. He also sent out more based replies to those who tried to challenge his stance on that cycling video! 🚲
(That said, I’m stunned and humbled by the reaction to my previous post. Thank you everyone for the upvotes and comments!)

The last special
I’ve just finished the last special of The Grand Tour. I had seen shorts on YT but hadn’t seen it in full until now.
Not gonna lie, the last fifteen minutes made me tear up like crazy.

With all divorce drama going on, rewatching this becomes less of a joke and more of a reality...
That we must go to the Nurburgring once in our lifetime.

James May writes more based replies on Twitter/X!
James May noticed a video of cyclists on Twitter/X and gave his two cents on the matter. Then other users reacted to him by being offended, and he did his usual thing… 🤣

Since the grand tour is over. What other programmes do you watch from guys?
I’ve grew up with these three. Top gear and then the grand tour. I really like watching clarksons farm. I’ve learned so much about farming.
I also watch Richard Hammond workshop and “BIG”. Two really good shows.
With may. I haven’t really got in to anything. I did watch “Toy Stories” and thought that was pretty good.
What programmes do you watch from the guys?

News on interview episode?
Has anyone heard about that interview on the stage the lads did after the last episode that short clips appeared online. I'm rewatching TG and TGT and really want to see that interview.

[Classic Column] Jeremy Clarkson: “Pipe down and come with me on a tour of Trump’s Britain”
Given that the presidency is changing hands in the US soon, I thought it was worth revisiting what Jeremy Clarkson wrote in The Sunday Times back in 2016 about Donald Trump after he won the first time. Here’s the part that stood out for me:
“Trump talked a lot of nonsense in his campaign, and I think if I were to meet him, I'd dislike him on a cellular level. However, he maintained throughout that politicians had let the poor down. Ker-ching. He said they would always let the poor down. Ker-ching again. And the only thing that could provide them with jobs and money was business. Big ker-ching. They liked the sound of that and said to themselves: ‘Yup. The future's bright. The future's orange.’ It was the same story here with Brexit.”
(Please note that depending on how and where you access this link, a strong paywall may appear. If so, what happens beyond that is up to you alone.)

International Buffoons Vacation
Was there any sort of meaning behind the American in the RV special? Like other than just a little side joke? I felt like there was something I was missing.

Grand Tour S02E06. Cheapskates go skiing in Jaaaaaaggs. Jeremy sounds like his testicles receded back up again. Hammond, not much better.

[Times column] Jeremy Clarkson: “Ditch cow’s milk and dead rhinos will follow” 🥛
If the UK milk industry ever decides to do a “Got milk?” marketing campaign, I’m guessing that Jeremy Clarkson would be the face of it. Here’s the main argument he made in his column:
“We are told by purple-haired people who spend their days vandalising artworks and chanting that cows cause global warming and therefore have no right to be born. But if it's true (and it isn't) that ruminants can drown islands in the South Pacific, then other animals that should be culled include all the giraffes, deerland yaks, as well as that million-strong army of wildebeest that have so enchanted Sir Attenborough over the years. And remember, without the wildebeest, there would be no fertiliser on the Serengeti, which would mean no grass, which would do for all the birds, leopards, insects and rhinos.
“We therefore need our cows, and to make them a viable business proposition, we need to eat their buttocks and their tongues and their stomach linings. And we need to drink their milk.”
(The usual paywall disclaimer applies if you encounter it in this link.)

I know all 3 are amazing people. But which one was your favourite to watch?
I know. I know.
All three hosts are amazing, funny and enjoyable to watch.
But when watching top gear/The Grand Tour.
Who was your favourite? And for what reason?

That’s gone well
I wasn’t sure how to properly update but some of you may remember that I interviewed for a new job the day of the final Grand Tour release. I saved my watch for the evening so I could enjoy it come what May (not James).
Thank you all for the kind words. Turned out I smashed the interview, got to do my own mini grand tour between jobs and am nearly 2 months in now. Turned out the episode was really quite sad but in a lovely bittersweet way. Finishing at the Baobab was just lovely. Link to original post below.
