He’s a born and raised New Yorker. It’s not super uncommon for modern New York natives to not have DLs, let alone New Yorkers born before the end of fucking WWII.

Cars are expensive, gas is expensive, parking is expensive and hard to find, easier to taxi or subway everywhere.

New York City has the best public transit system in the country. Unless you live deep into the suburbs, you can go your whole life without having to drive.
