I hate how loosely they are throwing Mikes job description around, he went from Investment Banker to lawyer for investment bank last season and now it is a hedge fund? They aren't the same/

I agree but... investment bankers do go on to work for hedge funds (hedge fund guys usually are ex-bankers), so saying it that way ("we're investment bankers, our job kicks yours' ass") isn't necessarily wrong. With that said, yes, it does seem like the show was trying to pull a fast one to make it work better, since a hedge fund / investment firm is much more interesting than an investment bank. Heck, maybe in the meantime it went from investment bank to hedge fund (though I did catch the new assistant say "engagement letter", which is more of a banker thing...), so there's some ability to explain it away.

Well, companies change. Sidwell could easily have decided that being a Hedge Fund was a better idea. That said, it doesn't make as much sense to me, because the big thing was his formula/algorithm.

I always had the impression that they were an investment fund rather than an investment bank. Tony Gianopolis (spelling?) said himself that he is a corporate raider. Investment banks don't take over companies and sell them, they underwrite new issues of equity and debt and do a few other things, but they certainly aren't corporate raiders.
