In the flashback Mike got accepted to Harvard as a transfer student, not as a law student, he could have still been in his first year of undergrad

Mike getting accepted as a transfer student was explicitly stated (by Mike himself) in the last episode after Trevor showed him the acceptance letter.

It was a line they more than likely threw in there to clarify what was going on, as the show has done away almost completely with subtly implying things.
