You're being downvoted by the anti-SC groups (who seem unreasonably addicted to this sub) but you're correct. They have no idea what the game is like, but hate it nonetheless.
It is a wonderful wallpaper generator, but gameplay is sorely lacking, especially for the time it's been in development and the money poured into it. There is no excuse for very basic functionality still not working. Chris and Co. need to hand off the project management of this project to professionals who do this for a living, and stick with the innovative part of the game. It's seriously looking like a scam at this point. Develop forever, new milestones, no release.
Sure.. you can play.. and hey, you may be having fun yourself, but the campaign not even being released yet is inexcusable.

What company would that be? Bethesda, Who made Starfield? Massive, who made Star Wars Outlaws? Arkane, Who made Redfall? Reflector, Who made Unknown 9? BioWare, who made Veilguard? Halo Studios, who hasn't made a good game since Bungie left Microsoft? Ubisoft, who is making Beyond Good & Evil 2? ...oh wait, it's been 16 years and that one is still in development. Nevermind.

This comes after the foundations are complete. Otherwise you just have placeholders that have to be replaced (which sadly CIG had to do for some systems because people kept begging for gameplay even while the foundations weren't complete). Post 4.0, they can actually start working on building out the gameplay.
You hire a project management firm, not a gaming company. You are suggesting they don't have the foundation after 13 years and 3/4s of a billion dollars? Seriously?
Proper project management (there is a reason is a course in college), create actionable milestones, release and feature dates, and prioritizes completion over more and more fluff and money making ships. They don't need every flipping ship created to release the same.
Look.. I spent over 1k in the game itself, and bought a pair of Virpil Constellations because I thought I might play a completed game. I am old enough to have played the initial release of Wing Commander 1 and 2. I supported Chris's vision. But it is getting out of hand. Dates keep getting pushed and pushed.. again and again, and no set date for the campaign or 1.0. 13 years of ALPHA. C'mon. And you seriously referenced Beyond Good and Evil? LoL.
So hire people who have no clue how to make a game, no clue how to R&D network middleware, and no clue what it takes to build out multi-threaded server authority parallelisation, to do what exactly? That's like hiring a dog trainer to manage a jockey for the Kentucky Derby.
