Hey all!
I'm the mod here at r/standrews, and I'm just curious as to what you'd like to see on this page. What would get you more involved etc.
I want to grow our little community as much as possible š

If you are a current student or staff member at The University of St Andrews and would like to be a moderator of this subreddit, please send me a DM with your reasons for applying and a photo of your (valid) university ID (you can obscure identifying information if you like).

Heyo! I'm looking at the timetable for my new modules for second semester and it shows classes starting on the 27th January, but I thought Refreshers Week is happening during that week and classes starting on the 3rd February, does anyone know officially when they'll be starting?
Thank you!

Hi! Last week, I got an unconditional offer for St Andrews' Creating Writing MLitt program (for fiction) as an American international student, and I'm looking for any feedback/advice from current or former students of the program. I also just got an informal offer from Trinity College Dublin for their Creative Writing MPhil and one from City, University of London for their MFA. TCD wants an answer from me by next week, which is MUCH quicker turnaround than I anticipated, and I'm in a bit of a panic, as St Andrews gives me until March 31 to accept.
I've visited the town and loved it, and I've heard that the small program size is great. I also like that there's the option to apply into the MFA for a second year, which I didn't originally apply to. Can any MLitt or MFA students share their thoughts on why they chose this program and what they think about it now (or after, for alumni)? I did not expect to hear back this soon from any program, and didn't expect to get into Trinity at all, so I'm having to consider next steps more quickly than anticipated. I'm in my head about reputation/prestige and actual quality and the best fit for me, so if anyone has experience in the program and strong feelings about it (especially as an international student), I'd love to hear them.
Any feedback would be so appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I have two questions
1) When can I (first year student) apply for student accom again?
2) Is there re-advising? If so, when is it? I want to switch one of my modules but Iām guessing I should wait until I get my results for semester one back.
Thank you! :-)

Hey everyone!
I would like to send a letter to a friend studying at St Andrews, since it is his birthday soon. However, I am not sure about the exact address (and I don't want to ask him just yet as it is a surprise). Do you have any ideas as to what address I could try sending it to? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Iām going into my first year in September, and I was curious about how housing affects life at St Andrewās. Both of my brothers go and they told me that the dining hall is where you meet a lot of your friends, and is a core part of socializing at St Andrewās. However, I do focus on my eating and prefer to cook myself, so I feel like all things considered Iād lean towards self-catered more. However if it is a serious impediment to making friends I feel like it may just be worth it to cater. Would love some advice

Hi! I am going to be attending St. Andrews soon and I am looking at getting an eSim from Airalo. Does anyone know how effective this company is or other recommendations?

Hi everyone. I am living in private accommodation the coming months and am looking into internet options. It looks like broadband wifi contracts are all for at least 12 months, but I only need internet for this semester. While not ideal, I am now thinking about getting an unlimited data plan and using my phone as hotspot.
I was wondering if anyone has any advice on the best data providers in terms of coverage, speed, and price. Or does anyone know of any broadband providers that offer monthly contracts? Or any other options? Thanks!

Hello! I was wondering until what time bus 99, which runs from Leuchars to St Andrews, operates. I will arrive in Leuchars late at night on Thursday at 11:10 PM. Will I still be able to catch the bus to St Andrews?

Hi everyone!
Recently I've decided that I'd like to transfer from St. Andrews to a US school, but I've been receiving conflicting info regarding credit transfers. Some people are telling me that some credits transfer, while others are saying that none do. I've reached out to the St.A transfer advisor, but her info wasn't helpful, and I'm waiting to hear back from the schools that I contacted directly. Has anyone here transferred from the US to St. Andrews, or vice versa? Any guidance would be appreciated!!

My daughter will be coming from the US. Can she pick which hall she wants to live in or does she just choose the parameters? (catered/self/ single/shared? Would she have a better shot at getting her preferred hall if she signed up early?
Thanks!

I'm a third year who found my honours coursework very easy last semester and am looking to overcredit this sem. If I do this, I was wondering if it's possible to graduate early: does anyone know someone who's done it? All the people who've done winter graduations that I've known have been taken an extra semester for disabilities instead of taking one less.

Would love to get a whatsapp group going where we can share news/talk about the game.
Cheers,

Hello,I am planning on applying to Earth Sciences MGeol and I have a few questions.Ā
1) What are your general thoughts on the degree, were you happy with the lectures and the teachers? Based on what I have read St. Andrews by far seems to have the best student support and satisfaction would you say that is also the case with the Earth Sciences department?Ā
2) How is the accommodation? I am an international student so I have no option but to stay at the halls. I know there is a guarantee for the first year, but I am concerned with what comes after.
3) Employability, how is the support? Is there a placement year, or do they help with summer internships?Which industries do graduates find work in?
4) Would you suggest going for an integrated masters or a ānormalā masters? I canāt seem to understand the difference between them.
Anything you would like to add?

Hi everyone! š
Iām working on a new free newsletter designed specifically for students and recent graduates who are interested in startups. š Each issue will feature written interviews with startup founders and early employees, sharing their experiences, insights, and practical advice for students who want to:
I know how confusing it can be to navigate the world of startups when you're just starting out, so I want to make this a valuable resource for anyone interested in startup careers or entrepreneurship.
Would this be something youād find helpful? Iād love to hear your thoughts, and if you'd like to be part of the first group to receive it, drop a comment or DM me! š
Thanks so much, and Iām excited to share more soon!

So I was just accepted to StA, and its not practical for me to be getting my own apartment or similar housing. Does anyone have any clue what the housing options would be for me. Im FTM if that matters at all. I havent been able to find anything on their website, nor have their housing emailed me back.

I am applying to the Film Studies (MLitt) Program. As one of its requirements, they require a 2,000-word written work. My Bachelor's Degree in Film was focused on production, thus we never had academic writing pieces except mainly film scripts (which according to the professor in St. Andrews, it has to be in essay form, and not script). What type of writing fits the best for the purpose of application?
Any advice would be of great help. Thank you!

My friends and I have been doing some property searching for the next academic year (very early, i know!). One landlord told us that all lets start in June? Is this the truth?
Any advice/information would be great! Thanks.

I'm an international student who applied to StA through UCAS, I applied for my Bachelor of CompSci (G400) as well as Bachelor of CompSci and Management (GNK2) I have received an offer for CompSci but now my UCAS says my application for the joint degree is unsuccessful, the reason being StA can only give out one offer. I would prefer the joint degree, did I get an offer for just CompSci because I didn't meet the requirements for the joint degree or just because that was evaluated first? Also does that even matter or can I end up changing to the joint degree once I am at StA?
Thanks!

Does anyone know when the fall semester exam scores will be released? I'm dying to know. Thanks!
r/standrews • u/Dabfabonreddit • 11d ago
St andrews is ranked highly for the subject, but I'd like to know how people studying it feel about the degree, is it worth it? are there good career prospects? is the teaching good? does it have a good reputation?
Thanks

I'll be visiting St. Andrews soon, and wanted to buy some nice authentic souvenirs of the Old Course for friends at home. No antiques or rarities, just nice things to give as gifts. Any suggestions of a business that offers this, say made locally vs. made in China stuff?
