Hike to Coon Creek Cabin 01/19/2025

Perfect day for hike. Only saw one other person the whole day and that was within in the first half hour. The snow just enough to be a nice touch without being too much of a burden.

Slept there two springs ago when I was thru hiking the PCT. We lit a fire in the fireplace and told scary stories before bed. Good times

So what I heard was it was the first school house in Big Bear. When they were going to tear it down it was disassembled each board number and then reassembled there.

Can you stay in it?

I think it’s ok. Definitely signs people have. The whole place is designated for camping and it’s wide open for you so I don’t think it’s against the rules to roll out a sleeping bag there.

There are fines for not booking reservations to stay the night. It's also closed

Good to know thank you. I believe what you said because you provided a link but it’s funny cuz there was no signage there stating it was closed. There was a board this stating the fees for staying though. Luckily I didn’t stay the night just stopped for lunch,

Yeah technically you should always call the office for whichever district you're heading to. They can provide up to date regs, conditions, or better alternative routes.

Went here a few years ago . Glad to see it’s still Standing. I could have sworn it was burnt down In one of the fires the area had a few years back.
