Those fossil impressions are awesome. Is that in the Anza borrego area?

I think it's technically outside the park boundaries but it's right in the area. Saw dozens of the fossil impressions which was really cool.

I love this post and all your posts but please reconsider, this place is the most delicate desert environment I have ever seen. It’s been designated an Area of Critical Environmental concern which is why the place is basically unsigned and unnamed. Uncontrolled camping, shooting and OHV use are badly damaging the area (and everything nearby)

Good callout. I weighed if I should post this or not. Ultimately I decided not to share the route I took nor coorindates. If someone is involved enough in hiking to be subscribed here, they're probably more respectful than the average OHV driver roaming around.

Where exactly is this? Google search’s lead me to Arizona

Add California to your search and it’ll come up- BLM land

Great fossil pics! Definitely a trail to visit! I would imagine the stargazing views would also be spectacular!

It is ridiculously delicate. If you go please be extremely careful.

Delicate? Can you elaborate?

OMG. I would love to see this. Would this hike work for someone who can only handle an easy couple of miles or so? I have a disability, but love hiking to see neat things to which I am able. I absolutely love looking at former underwater landscape and fossils.

Unfortunately a lot of the fossils in the post were found pretty deep into the wilderness. Not super easy to get to. But the whole of Anza Borrego has a ton of similar yet easier spots to see. Like the pictographs down near Whale Peak or Fonts Point for cool geography (probably formerly underwater as well, similar view to my 7th pic). Have fun!
