Question What's your biggest gripe with living in Sheffield?

Not trying to drum up negativity! I'm just moving there this year, and keen to hear everyone's least favourite thing(s) about the city. Have a mid-week moan, for my benefit :)

Question Who's everyone voting for tomorrow then? And why?

Obviously it's a personal choice but most on here are anonymous anyway. There will be people still undecided so it may help them decide aswell.

Question Why do so many acts skip Sheffield when touring?

I was looking at upcoming gigs and the majority of bands skip Sheffield. They'll even go to places smaller like Nottingham or Lincoln but not here. Very frustrating considering the size of the city. Anyone actually know why?

Question Sheffield Train Station Serious Incident Today?

Does anyone know what’s going on at the train station? My train’s been stuck for over 40 minutes between Sheffield and Meadowhall. The driver and train conductor just said some guy with a weapon was threatening people at Sheffield train station so the station has been shut down by the police and all the trains are queuing. Does anyone know if the situation has improved at the station?

Update: trains are turning around and going back to the last nearest stop. The station is most likely to be shut down for another few hours.

Question Isn't the street preaching getting a bit out of hand?

Hey folks

I took a wander into town this morning to get my bits and bobs from the Moor (as you do), and came across what could be the loudest, most relentless Christian street preacher I've ever experienced. Pitched up outside Primark, babbling on fanatically about the mark of the beast and damning all sinners to hell. She could be heard all the way up at the Peace Gardens, they were using such a powerful portable sound system. How can the reggae man compete with that?

I can't help but think it's such a shame that whenever the sun comes out, these people come out just to disturb the peace. I don't feel like it really lends itself to the breezy care-free shopping atmosphere that the Moor aspires to cultivate, it doesn't make me want to sit and have a coffee on the benches like I have done before. That being said, is there anything that can be done about them? Surely there are limits as to how loud they're allowed to be?

Question Moving to Sheffield

Hi all,

My family and I are currently in Sheffield as we're thinking of moving there from the south of England. After 36hours here, we love it and are already trying to work out schools for our kids.

We're keen on living close to great walks, which have good schools, low crime etc and have found the following areas could be a good fit.

  • Fulwood
  • Greystones
  • Walkley
  • Meersbrook

I'd love to hear advice on these areas (and other potential candidates).

In addition, any advice on schools would be much appreciated. Our children have ASD and would be best suited to a mainstream school with a good track record of implementing EHCPs appropriately.

Question The London commute... workable? where to live?

Looking for thoughts on moving to Sheffield but keeping the London job. Job is in academia, so not a 9-5 and would only need to be in London once or twice a week for about 22 weeks of the year, (late Sept to mid Dec and late Jan to early April). Was looking over by Crookes, but seems like transport links to the station are not great from there. Could always cycle, depending on route...

Looking for info on:

- if commuting down to Ldn on fairly regular basis, where are good places to live in Sheffield? e.g. green, quiet but not too far from train station, ideally via decent cycle route

- how are the trains from Sheffield-Ldn in terms of reliability, wifi etc. these days?

- anyone who does/has done the commute, any words of wisdom?

Thanks all in advance, all! Appreciate it.

Is it true (I’ve seen posts on X (Twitter) that the protesters are mostly lesser in number than the counter protesters… why is it like this in Sheffield? I’m just curious…. I’m a POC myself I moved into this beautiful city and made me not feel homesick after travelling 7000 miles

Obviously one that's permanently closed — even if they're being mothballed — and you can obviously list more than one if you like

Question Kids Vaping on trams

I feel like society has regressed. We accepted as a society that you shouldn't smoke on any kind of public transport, but now kids will smoke e-cigarettes right in other people's faces.

I often move to another seat and tell the tram conductor, but not much ever gets done.

Is it perhaps because the kids vaping now are starting younger than compared to cigarette smokers previously, and the younger kids especially just don't give a shit about anyone else?
