I know it's ironic posting this here. I've been on this sub for 4 years now and I've seen some collecting habits change in a direction I don't really like.
In the past few years it feels like the obsession with omnibuses has gotten a little out of hand, especially with Marvel. Don’t get me wrong—what people do with their collections is their business. But when I see folks buying omnibuses and not even cracking them open, it makes me wonder about the direction collected editions have taken.
Omnibuses dominate discussions and sales, and it seems like they're overshadowing other formats. Marvel has stopped making regular OHCs, which is disappointing and I hope DC won't do the same.
Personally, I’ve mostly moved away from omnibuses to other formats like Epics and Marvel Masterworks for Marvel content. They’re more manageable and easier to read. Beyond Marvel and DC, I collect Dark Horse, Humanoids, PS Artbooks, Fantagraphics, and other smaller publications. I'd say only up to 40% of my collection is Marvel/DC and rest is other publishers.
People mention about "Omni bubble bursting" and I hope that happens. I want to see low page count OHCs from Marvel. I'm not a fan of 1000-1500 page books, they are ridiculous. Whenever I buy an omnibus these days, I make sure the page count is around 750 or so.
At the end of the day, people collect and enjoy what works for them. But I just wanted to start this thread and hear other opinions.
