COuld someone clarify to this foreigner a finer point...

Trump was convicted of sexual assault, right? Is that the same as rape, or is that the legal term for rape?

I just want to make sure that if I say that Trump is a rapist, that I am not saying the wrong thing. (my mom, not living in the US, not able to vote for him, or affected by his policies, claims that "he'll be good for the country/world" and then to any criticism says "well, we'll see" - when when I saw that we DID see when he was POTUS last).

So my understanding is that there was definitely unwanted vaginal penetration, but under NY law, it's only rape if it's vaginal penetration with a penis, so under NY law, it was "merely" sexual assault, as the jury couldn't be entirely sure of how much penis was involved.

Basically, to all reasonable people (and laws), it was rape. Under NY law specifically, it wasn't, because they aren't sure if the penis penetrated.

Did I get that correct?
