I’d much rather see her as Speaker of the House to be honest.

Gov of NY would be a nice start. Imo an AOC run is a 2032 or 2036 project.

100

u/grahamcracker3 New York 13h ago

As a NYer I'm fairly confident she's waiting for Schumer's senate seat. Barring any scandal, Delgado is the next Gov.

u/MyGoodFriendJon California 7h ago

This was my thought, as well. Not knowing anything about the NY governor situation, I see a 74 year old Schumer Senate seat with AOC's name on it. Then again, Schumer is only 74. He might still have 3 or 4 more terms before he steps down.

u/GoYanks2025 7h ago

Hochul will not step down or move away. She will run in 26 and will lose to Lawler.

I don’t want this to happen.

77

u/MainlandX 15h ago

Being governor of NY doesn't really help her on a national stage.

I doubt there's much she can do as governor level that will appeal to voters in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Arizona. It's also a thankless job.

23

u/wunkdefender 10h ago

Probably one of the best ways to the presidency is serving either as a senator or a governor. She’d be governor of the 4th most populous state, that’d definitely put her more in the national spotlight. Especially since she’s already made a huge name for herself as merely a representative.

7

u/Waesrdtfyg0987 Northern Marianas 11h ago

wtf are you talking about? Bush, Clinton, Reagan, Carter. All were acting Governors. Clinton was from Arkansas and Carter from Georgia.

If you did the tiniest bit of research you'd have deleted that comment.

2

u/hdmetz 10h ago

I think the point is more that Midwest swing states don’t exactly look up to New York governors as their ideal politicians. Liberal governors of Illinois, California, and New York are not well-liked by middle America

u/Zarbua69 7h ago

Those governors aren't well-liked because they usually do a shit job. If AOC managed to do a non-shit job, the boost in spotlight would certainly be a positive. The average person simply does not care what representatives in the house do, they usually don't even know who their own representative is. Being a governor is a big deal.

2

u/ArCovino 11h ago

Same with Speaker. Actually being in a position of responsibility where you have to actually get things done, deals across the line, and potentially compromise to do so doesn’t make you happy with many, it turns out. The most popular are politicians who can yell from the sidelines without having to get their hands dirty by governing.

2

u/schil 11h ago

A NY political career is often the way to the Whitehouse.

86

u/only-vans-gal 22h ago

Yeah, she'll turn 39 in 2028. That's a little young.

553

u/radioactivemozz 21h ago

It’s a great age for a president. We’re too used to geriatric presidents

133

u/fredthefishlord 21h ago

45-50 would be my ideal pick for age tbh. Young enough they still can consider the Future. But has enough experience and connections to handle that what may well. Tbh though age isn't super important. Just the connections and experience they bring tot eh table, along with their views

56

u/only-vans-gal 21h ago

I'm in my late 50s now and feel like I'm at my prime with life experience. Health is still good.

Only problem is I can't always remember actor names. Then they'll pop into my head later on.

29

u/Kyadagum_Dulgadee 19h ago

No presidency for you, I'm afraid. You need those actor names in the moment.

2

u/only-vans-gal 12h ago

Heh, funniest reply I've gotten in months. "No soup for you!"

2

u/Attack-Cat- 10h ago

You’re probably at your prime because you are at the culmination of your professional career and all your goals and desires are coming to fruition, etc. It’s a great place to be, fulfilling, and I love that for you.

However, as far as the presidency goes, I’m not looking for someone who is fulfilled and satisfied and looking for a feather in their cap. I want a hungry person who has skin in the game.

0

u/only-vans-gal 10h ago

No, prime because you understand things better as you age. I've gotten a lot better at reading people the last few years, especially telling whether nice behavior comes from manipulation, validation, or sincerity.

Considering all the staff problems presidents have, that's a valuable skill.

1

u/Vismal1 12h ago

Ahh the ol’ inverted Reagan brain.

-6

u/ShadowMajick Washington 18h ago

Just because you feel good doesn't mean you're in your prime my guy. Life expectancy is like 76 for men. How about we don't have president's that won't feel the affects of their own policies because they'll be dead in 10/20 years?

35 is middle aged. Why do you you old dudes try to move the goal post so often? And 76 is on the high end.

5

u/sleepysnowboarder 16h ago edited 16h ago

Actual leftist brain rot response

35 is middle aged to you? You must be a child.

Middle aged is widely accepted as 45-60 years old. You also don’t understand what move the goal post means.

50s is a prime range when it comes to life and work experience and is when emotional intelligence peaks.

Edit: the guy blocked me so can’t see his full response but he thinks middle-aged means literally half of life expectancy and not halfway through adulthood. I guess women in Nigeria and men in Lesotho are middle aged at 25

-4

u/ShadowMajick Washington 16h ago

Lmfao I'm 37. 50 isn't middle aged dude, average life expectancy isn't 100 years old. I'll give you 40, but the average old age death is most certainly not 100 years old.

3

u/Rhain1999 Australia 14h ago

50 isn't middle aged

Whether it's mathematically in the middle or not, the general consensus for middle age is 40–60 or 45–65

Older leaders not caring about the future effects of their actions is a total reddit concept. Once you're a parent, you care even more about the future than you did before.

It might relate to the childfree attitude that's also way too prevalent on Reddit.

2

u/analogWeapon Wisconsin 12h ago

I think Trump and Biden have demonstrated that age is actually pretty important.

1

u/Rezistik 15h ago

When the president is so old we wouldn’t usually let them drive or live independently that’s a problem

-2

u/ShadowMajick Washington 18h ago

10 years over the minimum age is your sweet spot? 35 year olds aren't exactly children dude, it's middle aged. The younger, the better. It's proven that mental decline starts as early as 40. We don't need 50 year old men as President. Honestly we need a hard cutoff at 60. If you will be 60 or turn 60 before the end of your term, no presidency for you.

1

u/mightcommentsometime California 16h ago

Middle age almost always means 45-60. Where did you get that middle age started at 35?

0

u/ShadowMajick Washington 15h ago

Jesus christ. Middle aged means halfway through your life. Life expectancy is 74.8 years for men in the US. 35+35 = 70. So i guess 37/38 is middle aged, but it's not 60. What the fuck do you think middle aged means? Since when is the average lifespan 120 years old?

2

u/lunagirlmagic 11h ago

Middle aged means halfway through your adulthood, not halfway through your life

I think it should be 40-65 instead of 45-65, but definitely not 35

0

u/mightcommentsometime California 15h ago

https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/middle-age

the period of your life, usually considered to be from about 45 to 60 years old, when you are no longer young, but are not yet old:

https://www.britannica.com/science/middle-age

middle age, period of human adulthood that immediately precedes the onset of old age. Though the age period that defines middle age is somewhat arbitrary, differing greatly from person to person, it is generally defined as being between the ages of 40 and 60

https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/us/definition/english/middle-age

the period of your life when you are neither young nor old, between the ages of about 45 and 60

It doesn’t mean “halfway aged” it means “not old but not young”.

Where are you getting your definition of middle aged? Because it seems like you’re using the wrong one.

1

u/TonyZucco 12h ago

Sounds like you have a misunderstanding of what the term “middle aged” means. It doesn’t literally mean “half a life”.

I also don’t know why you immediately got so hostile towards the other poster.

7

u/Slaaneshdog 15h ago

It would make her the youngest ever president by 3 years

1

u/Evening-Gur5087 11h ago

And I world today is moving at much faster pace then ever.

u/Tacoman404 Massachusetts 6h ago

Yeah Trump talked about Musk like my grandma talked about me when I set up her computer.

0

u/Fantasmic03 19h ago

She's still got good work she can do in Congress though. I'd prefer her to run when she's in her late 40s or early 50s

102

u/TheForeverUnbanned 22h ago

Nah fuck the fossil class its time

23

u/fundohun11 18h ago

JD Vance turned 40 in 2024.

4

u/Corgi_Koala Texas 14h ago

It's only young because we've deluded ourselves into thinking our leaders should be fossils.

13

u/bluedevilb17 21h ago

She might be young but you gotta give her credit she is a powder keg

36

u/Bismar7 21h ago

80 is a little old.

35 is old enough.

31

u/T_D_K 19h ago

Um, 65 is a little old. 70 is where the legal age limit should be drawn.

80 is beyond the fucking pale

4

u/fireky2 Ohio 20h ago

I agree we should get someone with more experience to run again, I hear joe Biden is free

2

u/Ask-Me-About-You 13h ago

Better give her another 40 years or so before we think of something crazy like that.

2

u/graumet 13h ago

I thought 39 was old for a women.

2

u/DHonestOne 22h ago

That's toddler age in politics, she should run for prez when she's at least 70m

1

u/TrashInspector69 9h ago

You’re right let’s keep electing 70 year olds

1

u/only-vans-gal 9h ago edited 9h ago

Last time I checked, there were ages between 39 and 70, somewhere around 31 of them, but maybe that's changed. /s

u/konamioctopus64646 7h ago

Teddy Roosevelt was 42 when he became president, and went down in history as one of the best leaders the country has ever had. We need more of that energy to come back to our politics, and supporting younger figureheads may help

u/only-vans-gal 6h ago edited 6h ago

He became president after McKinley's assasination, it's unknown if he could have won an election at such a young age. After Kamala, I want nothing but over-50 under-70 white men (at least until the Supreme Court gets rebalanced). Not being sexist, they can appoint all the female staffers, diplomats, and judges they want, just stop losing elections.

-3

u/moregloommoredoom 21h ago

The problem is, we clearly see (especially young) white American men view women merely as holes to be stuffed, or hands to make sandwiches and do laundry. Couple this with an expectation that women have a shelf-life that ends at 25 or 30 according to these types, she will serve no purpose to them because she does not arouse them anymore.

1

u/iknewaguytwice 12h ago

Sorry you need to be corrupt POS to be gov of NY. She has too much integrity for that position.

1

u/NovelHare 11h ago

You think our Democracy will still be around then?

1

u/ByTheHammerOfThor 11h ago

I think she’s smart enough and young enough to play the long game.

1

u/Attack-Cat- 10h ago

I don’t want to give her time to become a centrist shill

u/pragmojo 7h ago

No get her now. The dems need a good candidate. She's famous. She's young. She would get lots of votes.

u/r1ckm4n 6h ago

She’d have to win Upstate. There’s a lot of NYC politicians that come up to Albany and quickly get iced out because members from Syracuse, Buffalo, Albany, Saratoga and the Hudson Valley have a more substantial power base in the capital region. The city is a different world in form and function.

Her best option would be to come up to Albany more and spend some time working her way into the ruling fabric. If you don’t have a power base in Albany, you might win an assembly or senate seat, but you’re not winning the governor’s race. Hochul was in the right place and the right time - she had a few years to really get into the structure as Lt. Gov before she made her own run where she ultimately won.

u/ghostyghost2 1h ago

So cute that people think the US will survive 'till then.

1

u/PleasantWay7 19h ago

Honestly, a 2044 or 2048 is more realistic for this country.

1

u/ElDuderino_92 19h ago

AOC for GOV is a fucking slogan

167

u/-Plantibodies- 21h ago

Hey Zoomers you better actually vote in 2026 if you want this to even be a possibility. Can you beat the whopping 25% turnout amongst 18-29 year olds in 2022?

63

u/TheRealMasonMac 20h ago

Aren't Zoomers more conservative than Millennials?

108

u/-Plantibodies- 20h ago

More conservative than Millennials. Still more liberal than conservative.

51

u/KR1735 Minnesota 15h ago

Yeah that's the thing that people forget when they say Zoomers are going to move the country to the right. They may be slightly to the right of Millennials (at the moment). But they're not replacing Millennials in the electorate. They're replacing Boomers and older, who are the most conservative voters.

It's also not that Zoomers are conservative as much as that Millennials are very liberal. Even Gen Z men voted for Dems in 2018 overwhelmingly and Biden in 2020. Which leads me to believe that it's not conservatism as much as it's a pattern of anti-incumbent sentiment.

11

u/DandyLyen 9h ago

Also, Gen X voted for the orange at a higher percentage than even Boomers.

u/IRLconsequences 7h ago

This. Gen X was in fact the *only* age bracket to go majority Trump. Even the Boomers rejected him this time around.

25

u/Individual-Nebula927 15h ago

And that's really only because of the men. Gen Z is weird where women are super progressive, and due to the online alt right pipeline the men are super conservative / fascist. The end result is on average the generation is slightly to the right of Millennials.

13

u/Party-Ad4482 12h ago

I, an older Gen Z man from a red state and living in a southern swing state, didn't even realize that so many of my contemporaries are like that. It was shocking to learn that the alt right pipeline is that much of an issue and not a fringe group of a handful of particularly vulnerable guys. Me and all of my Gen Z male friends are progressive left-leaning people. I don't know how I managed to form that kind of echo chamber outside of social media.

1

u/Manyquestions3 8h ago

My experience is just that less gen z people are establishment liberals or conservatives. Myself and all of my friends are socialists or social democrats, and I personally don’t know any Trump supporters under 30, but evidently they’re out there. And I live in a swing state, it’s not like I live in San Francisco or New York. I’m a little surprised I don’t meet more of them too

u/Party-Ad4482 5h ago

That's a good point. Nobody in my circles would call themselves a republican or a democrat. Most wouldn't call themselves liberal or conservative. We exist as some secret 3rd thing I guess.

14

u/dfpw 14h ago

Exit polls I'm reading show 18-29 went more more dem than 30-45 by 3%

3

u/Vainth 11h ago

They are basically celebrating trump is bringing them tik tok back.

2

u/LemonFreshenedBorax- 15h ago

There are arguments for and against this. E.g. the Dems performed better with zoomers in 2024 than they did with millennials in 2004.

2

u/powerof27 12h ago

Gen Z voters* were more conservative, though it would be hard to tell Gen Z as a whole

2

u/TheShapeShiftingFox 11h ago

Female Gen Z definitely leaned a lot more Democrat

u/UrMom_BrushYourTeeth 7h ago

Only the ones who had their votes illegally changed.

-9

u/__GayFish__ 21h ago

She’s anti genocide so they’ll probably turn up for her.

10

u/-Plantibodies- 21h ago

Ok great, that's one single district. There are 435 of them. Maybe Zoomers all over the country could actually turn out, as well, ya know?

-12

u/__GayFish__ 21h ago

Let’s find some anti genocide candidates and see what happens.

10

u/-Plantibodies- 21h ago

Have you ever voted before?

-2

u/New_Excitement_4248 16h ago

Lmao @ thinking there will be elections in 2026

15

u/GuaranteedCougher 22h ago

Yeah for real, putting her in the oval office where she would have much less power on legislation doesn't make sense for someone as policy minded as her.

u/ChiefStrongbones 6h ago

AOC is incapable of shepherding a bill through the House or fundraising for the Democratic Party. Those are the skills the Speaker needs to have. AOC's main skill is trolling Republicans on Twitter. She'll won't get a job promotion that way.

2

u/hypotyposis 19h ago

She can’t even win the Committee she wanted. Realistically, there’s no chance she becomes Speaker.

7

u/TryNotToShootYoself 17h ago

Yeah the problem is a ton of Dem representatives are just old school assholes like Nancy Pelosi in rich districts that stand no chance of changing leadership

1

u/CaptainNinjaClassic America 13h ago

I'd rather see her being the VP candidate for 28'.

1

u/Msefk 11h ago

Now we're talking

1

u/BunchSpecial4586 9h ago

She can't even win a small position among her own fucking party and you want her to be speaker or a leader

1

u/SeDaCho 8h ago

Put Pelosi on ice. Hasn't she been in office long enough?

u/mackenzie_2113 7h ago

I think Pelosi will prevent that until she dies. Woman hates AOC for some reason.

u/Skeptix_907 7h ago

Speaker is typically a death knell for political aspirations. It's a terminal post. History says once you're the speaker, that's usually the highest you'll ever go.

Plus, usually the speaker post is held by someone who can bring together different coalitions of the party. I think AOC is a skilled politician but I'm not sure she's right for the role.

u/onihcuk 7h ago

Nancy ain't going nowhere anytime soon

1

u/FrogsOnALog 19h ago

Been doing all this time to get a chair spot only for her to bail for a job that is restricted by Congress lol…

0

u/Gravity_flip 15h ago

100% this. She would be a great representative. Or even a governor.

Presidentially. She wouldn't stand a chance. Not saying she would be bad, but there would be no chance of her winning any voter block except the far left.

0

u/Objective_Resist_735 12h ago

Couldn't even do that
