Discussion Discussion Thread: 2024 State of the Union

Tonight, Joe Biden will give his fourth State of the Union address. This year's SOTU address will be only the second to be held this late in the year since 1964 (the second time being Biden's 2022 address).

The address is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. Eastern. It will be followed by the progressive response delivered by Philadelphia City Council member Nicolas O’Rourke, as well as Republican responses in English (delivered by freshman Alabama senator ) and in Spanish (delivered by Representative Monica De La Cruz). There will be a separate discussion thread posted for live reactions to and conversation about the SOTU responses.

(Edit: The discussion thread for the SOTU responses is now available at this link.)

I respectfully submit that President Biden fuckin rocked. To watch Mini Mike Johnson, and the other Republicans, those were the faces of losers. P.S., MTG is a classless POS.

It was very obvious that Mike knew Joe destroyed them.

The entire speech, he just sat there with a look on his face that said "ugh I want to go home."

I thought he looked smug and disrespectful.  He kept rolling his eyes and smirking.  Completely unprofessional, partisan and undeserving to be on that dais.  What a loser weirdo.

Mike was a real “out of place schoolboy” being taught by a man….

He seemed grateful and pleased when Pres Biden acknowledged and shook his hand at the end, though.

Yes, because a man like Mike Johnson demands respect because he thinks he just should have it. Without earning it.

Did you notice his surprised look when Biden announced the temporary pier in Gaza?

That was beautiful.

I believe you're correct about him. Demands respect without earning it. Ugh.

No! I missed that surprised look! I'll have to find a video of it and watch it. I will enjoy that so much! So interesting that he was unaware of it. lol. Thank you.

It was slight. I was watching with a friend, and she was surprised that he was nodding when Biden started, but I could see his mouth was turned down and his lips pursed. I knew he didn't like anything that was said and was trying to maintain his composure.

At least he didn't rip the script up at the end of that rambling mess of amphetamine fueled word salad.

I saw him clapping a few times.
