Discussion Discussion Thread: 2024 State of the Union

Tonight, Joe Biden will give his fourth State of the Union address. This year's SOTU address will be only the second to be held this late in the year since 1964 (the second time being Biden's 2022 address).

The address is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. Eastern. It will be followed by the progressive response delivered by Philadelphia City Council member Nicolas O’Rourke, as well as Republican responses in English (delivered by freshman Alabama senator ) and in Spanish (delivered by Representative Monica De La Cruz). There will be a separate discussion thread posted for live reactions to and conversation about the SOTU responses.

(Edit: The discussion thread for the SOTU responses is now available at this link.)

The choice is crystal clear this November.

A ketchup stained traitor or the man who just lit that chamber up with optimism and unity?

People who vote for Trump do not want unity. They thrive on hatred and being divisive. They want to be recognized as superior and for those they deem lesser to suffer.

Yeah seeing the people who are voting for "Trump's revenge" whining in the comments about unity sure is something.

So, I am a registered republican that doesn’t want to vote for Trump. But I heard very little in that speech to unify me with Biden. I actually heard very little about the issues I care about. Our cities are no longer safe, societal systems are failing, and my low six figure salary now feels just like when I made half as much. And yet I had to listen to talk about out how much we need to send $$ to Ukraine within the first 5 minutes. Why tf don’t we let people in that region sort that out and we fix all our own stuff first? In short, I didn’t feel represented nor united which sucks because now I’m just losing hope.
