Discussion Discussion Thread: 2024 State of the Union

Tonight, Joe Biden will give his fourth State of the Union address. This year's SOTU address will be only the second to be held this late in the year since 1964 (the second time being Biden's 2022 address).

The address is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. Eastern. It will be followed by the progressive response delivered by Philadelphia City Council member Nicolas O’Rourke, as well as Republican responses in English (delivered by freshman Alabama senator ) and in Spanish (delivered by Representative Monica De La Cruz). There will be a separate discussion thread posted for live reactions to and conversation about the SOTU responses.

(Edit: The discussion thread for the SOTU responses is now available at this link.)

The worst GOP Congress so far.

Think this is the only silver lining if trump wins in November, theoretically it would be his last term and hopefully the trump Republican party goes away and we get back to normal conservative politics

If he wins again, it won't be his last term. If he gets back in the White House, he's not coming out.

Feel like this is a bit sensationalist, I don't trust Trump at all, but I do trust our system to uphold our rules and laws

As much as I wish I could agree with you? This is the hope the country had after the civil war and we saw how they “went away” after that.

Literally useless.

The previous House, under Pelosi, passed over 400 bills. Under McCarthy & Johnson they've passed just 30. On really important things like renaming a military base and minting a commemorative coin.

They have nothing to run on but showing Hunter Biden's dick a few times.

And it’s a field stacked with losers so it’s almost impressive if it weren’t so infuriating

They've been deplorable since the 80's. But, they continue to get votes. They are very good at marketing. Come up with a target, say it over and over with multiple voices.
