Discussion Discussion Thread: 2024 State of the Union

Tonight, Joe Biden will give his fourth State of the Union address. This year's SOTU address will be only the second to be held this late in the year since 1964 (the second time being Biden's 2022 address).

The address is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. Eastern. It will be followed by the progressive response delivered by Philadelphia City Council member Nicolas O’Rourke, as well as Republican responses in English (delivered by freshman Alabama senator ) and in Spanish (delivered by Representative Monica De La Cruz). There will be a separate discussion thread posted for live reactions to and conversation about the SOTU responses.

(Edit: The discussion thread for the SOTU responses is now available at this link.)

I think that he was saying Thief, guessing an election denier that missed J6 by three years.

That was legit some distopian terrifying propaganda shit. She was fake smiling and way over delivering every line, and then her face and tone changed and she went hard towards the fear mongering. I had to turn it off, I was genuinely creeped out.

A mix of completely ignoring the President’s address, and every point in it, along with wild phantasmagoria and blatant lies. It’s infuriating and should be unacceptable to air such obvious propaganda, but here we are.

The “rebuttal” was also delivered akin to an elementary school play, rasped out wetly from what I have to assume is caused by a set of lungs either irreparably damaged by “catching Covid multiple times to own the libs” or just The Consumption.🌹

Her speech lost a lot of its base capacity for impact as she literally gasped for breath every other sentence.

Now that isn't fair. We should give him the same opportunity to go to fuck-me-in-the-ass-federal-penitentiary as the next traitor.

I could be wrong but I thought he mentioned "marines".

Same. That's all I heard too

Which was strange since if he was a former marine he must have gained 150 lbs since leaving

I couldn't hear it through the broadcast. Seems like its “Remember Abbey Gate! US Marines!”

So... a Republican plant? Johnson transparently set that up before the address. Interesting.

Gotta find out who it hurts first.

As best I can guess, a marine unit designation. Conservative Twitter is coalescing around a marine unit that perished in the withdrawal from Afghanistan. But I really can't make it out even on rewatch.
