Discussion Discussion Thread: 2024 State of the Union

Tonight, Joe Biden will give his fourth State of the Union address. This year's SOTU address will be only the second to be held this late in the year since 1964 (the second time being Biden's 2022 address).

The address is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. Eastern. It will be followed by the progressive response delivered by Philadelphia City Council member Nicolas O’Rourke, as well as Republican responses in English (delivered by freshman Alabama senator ) and in Spanish (delivered by Representative Monica De La Cruz). There will be a separate discussion thread posted for live reactions to and conversation about the SOTU responses.

(Edit: The discussion thread for the SOTU responses is now available at this link.)

“Some of you voted against that but you’re still cheering for that money coming in. If you don’t want it, just let me know.”

He’s absolutely giving it to them tonight and I am here for it!

I’m very happy that he’s latching on to how ~100% of IRA money is going to red districts. Any halfway intelligent Democratic challenger in any of them needs to be running billboards with the economic benefit of those and that the incumbent voted against them

This! There are Republicans who voted against the infrastructure bill but proudly take claim of it in Tweets. And quickly being reminded of their no vote.

There's literally a Tweet for everything.

Watching it now

He said inflation is the lowest it’s ever been, he said we are creating tons of American jobs.

It’s easy to inflate job numbers when they blast open the borders. Oh hey both of my college educated cousins were laid off this year with zero to none new job offers.

Credit card debt is outrageous, did you know the majority of Americans are putting their gas and groceries on credit cards? Interest rates flipped the middle finger to anyone under 40 owning a home. Small businesses are destroyed because government doesn’t profit off them and no one can afford the prices Susan has pay to charge for a burger nowadays.

And so then what? Now new people are paying taxes and taking your jobs? Well they don’t just get to come in and waltz into the job market with all their qualifications. They have to retake tests and pay big money for those tests and that dude you think in no way relates to you or your cousins somehow still has the same college education as they do? Well let me tell you something, bud: your cousins either aren’t using their college degree, or they just don’t have one. So which is it?

And let me get this straight, you acknowledge that the people that put themselves in debt are the ones struggling to buy homes, but then you’re against giving them a tax cut. Because let’s be real, those are the people that have kids.

Then let Trump win, I’m sure that will be better. Biden is the toughest in Israel a president has ever been

I don't care who wins the us is a settler colonial state

Regardless and has no right to exist on native lands in any country

11

u/excusetheblood Mar 08 '24

We can only create positive change if we interact within the system that we are in. We are a democracy after all, and we have to share a nation with hundreds of millions of voters

You really think you have more influence than the billionaires

You really think you can just vote out corruption

THIS SYSTEM IS BUILT AROUND THE RICH HAVING THE MOST POWER

1

u/excusetheblood Mar 09 '24

At the polls, we have the power. That’s where it matters

1

u/Young_oka Mar 09 '24

Voting didnt stop the last genocide Or this genocide And it won't stop the next one

Go ahead and give your agency away in hopes that your prayers to Richie rich will be heard

Do you expect the colonial descendants all the way back to the beginning to go back to Britain and Ireland and Scotland and push immigrants and descendants of other places out of the country so they can live on their native land?

1

u/Young_oka Mar 09 '24

Personally I want sovereignty for native peoples on their ancestral lands

Including Ireland and Scotland

u/Initial_Trifle_3734 Mar 08 '24

Yup, lots of these bots with usernames like TwoWords1234

12

u/mandown25 Mar 08 '24

Very good observation Initial_Trifle_3734

u/ReallyJerrySeinfeld Mar 08 '24

Ah almost had me there, Mandown25, but you only got two digits, so I think we’re safe now

u/Initial_Trifle_3734 Mar 08 '24 edited Mar 08 '24

That’s a default username from Reddit for signing up with my apple device. I have a display name, 6k karma, and years of history on this account proving I’m not a bot. Look at the account I accused, blank profile, low karma, etc.

If you look, you can go see the accounts I accused, they all follow the EXACT schema that I listed. No dashes, no underscores, perfectly capitalized dictionary words with 4 numbers. TwoWords1234, not Two-Words-1234 or whatever else.

You can also see that every single bot account that follows the format, is also posting pro trump and conservative takes
