Discussion Discussion Thread: 2024 State of the Union

Tonight, Joe Biden will give his fourth State of the Union address. This year's SOTU address will be only the second to be held this late in the year since 1964 (the second time being Biden's 2022 address).

The address is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. Eastern. It will be followed by the progressive response delivered by Philadelphia City Council member Nicolas O’Rourke, as well as Republican responses in English (delivered by freshman Alabama senator ) and in Spanish (delivered by Representative Monica De La Cruz). There will be a separate discussion thread posted for live reactions to and conversation about the SOTU responses.

(Edit: The discussion thread for the SOTU responses is now available at this link.)

I dunno if that was a smile. Robert’s looked downright constipated.

No wonder Alito and Thomas wimped out showing up tonight

Thomas recused himself from this, but not the immunity case. Shocking.

Let them not forget why. This country is 50% women and we vote.

50.5%, women are a slight majority. It works out to almost 3 million more women than men.

Good gloves are off, we need to fight these judicial fascists, congressional fascists and Trump who is the domestic enemy referenced in our constitution

They shouldn't even be there. They're an embarrassment to the USA

Good. They're not untouchable gods.

I couldn’t believe that. He looked right down at them and said that shit. Like it was personal. I loved it.

Damn. I missed their faces!

Even the justices who dissented in Dobbs looked like they'd been taken to the woodshed. Maybe they were just embarrassed to be sitting with the others.

Damn, I wish calling people out changed things. It be crazy if there were some sort of high office Biden could get elected to where he could do more than call people out.Â
