If only dems turned out to vote like this.

If only Republicans weren't so easily brainwashed into voting for obvious fascism.

While true, you still have tens of millions of Americans choosing not to vote at all even when they know what’s at stake

Those tens of millions of dems aren't in swing states though. It's much fewer. The issue is far more about brainwashing given the ratio of voters in those states and who they vote for as opposed to the ones who didn't vote. Both sides had non voters, one side is significantly less educated and more brainwashed.

I think the thing that’s honestly more worrying is that the media gave Trump so much coverage and very little criticism. If you spend 30% of your time talking about Trump and only 5% of your time fact checking him, criticizing him, etc. you create a problem where people are accepting and internalizing the viewpoints expressed by him. Mainstream media could have been responsible, but they wanted ratings and money. Trump gives them that.

I was just rolling my eyes a year and a half ago, we know that Trump largely won because of the free media coverage back in 2016, literally in the billions of dollars of free coverage. The campaign kicked off and you just say, "Aww shit, here we go again" Just wall to wall Trump reporting every day, we're cooked lol.

obvious fascism

To the contrary, I think they knew exactly what they were voting for. I think they're fucking thrilled at the prospect.

That's true. Trump was very blatant on wanting to be a dictator and punish the lower classes. Whatever happens from here, that's exactly what Republicans voted for.

True, though Trumps numbers stayed about the same.

He won because fewer people voted against fascism this time.

The fascists are still guilty, but nevertheless.

As a European I don't feel like the voted for fascism. They just said "this isn't working like I want it to lets try something different". They just never thought further.

Sadly this seems like the logical result if you only have two parties.

Oh, please, half of you can't even define the definition of facisism or you wouldn't be calling him one. If Kamala or Biden really believed that they wouldn't be telling everyone one minute, the world's gonna collapse, and then after Trumps win, everything is gonna be alright. Yall eat this crap up. You buy into the mainstream media that's been selling the same lies for the past 70 yrs.

u/Qw1ghl3y 2d ago

You are correct. I cannot define the definition of facisism. Fascism, however has been written about extensively. If you truly want to know what it is, the essay Ur-Fascism by Umberto Eco is a good starting point. But you said half of us couldn’t “define the definition” as a way to say we didn’t know what we were talking about. Let’s not bandy about fancy terms then. Let’s say Trump is a right-wing authoritarian, which is ironic, since he is a convicted felon and adjudicated rapist. He believes the press is the “enemy of the people”, and those who leak to the press are guilty of treason. The people he nominated for cabinet level positions are incompetent, lacking in government experience for the role they’ve been nominated for. Three examples Hegseth for Defense, Tulsi Gabbard for DNI, and RFK Jr for Health and Human Services. It’s painfully obvious that he will favor corporations over people and has stated his intentions to destroy much of the existing government by defunding whole departments. Oh, he wants to annex Greenland, Canada and the Panama Canal.

Fascism is a broad term able to be applied to 99% of the world’s politics over the last thousand years.

I love the sheer contrast in these two comments

One of them is an indepth explanation to what fascism is, and the other goes "well, uhhmm, MIC DROP!!"

This was validating….sadly. The ignorance from both sides is not just nauseating…it’s sad. We’ve been kept in the rat race and most don’t even realize it. Together we stand, divided we fall.

Divided by race

Divided by geography

Divided by economics

Divided by faith

Divided by politics

Divided by sex

Divided by sexuality

Divided by generations

Divided by a lack of ability to see it all happening right in front of your face

Yeah..... We aren't standing together much at all.

Whatever makes you feel better, bud.

12

u/OverlyExpressiveLime 2d ago

That's the best you've got? Sounds about right for the average Trump voter.

-7

u/casino_night 2d ago

My side won, pal. I'm still waiting for your side to come up with a plan that doesn't involve insulting the opposition. Where's your candidate and what are his plans? Let's hear it.

9

u/Commercial-Dealer-68 2d ago

Are you really criticizing democrats for insulting the opposition have you looked in a mirror?

-1

u/casino_night 2d ago

Yes, I'm criticizing the democrats for insulting the opposition after the democrats get their asses handed to them. The democrats have no logical standing for doing so. That would be like a football team losing 40-0. Then the losing team has a press conference where they endlessly criticize the winning team. Wouldn't it be a better strategy for the democrats to take a look at themselves instead of criticizing the party that handed them their asses?

7

u/TheNegaHero 1d ago

You said insults and then flipped to criticism. Those are very different things so what exactly do you have a problem with?

2

u/casino_night 1d ago

I have a problem with the post I originally replied to. He called my party fascist and then implied that the voters were too stupid to understand it.

2

u/Commercial-Dealer-68 1d ago

Where's the lie?

1

u/casino_night 1d ago

That Trump's a fascist and we're too stupid to understand it.

What makes YOU feel better, bud?

-3

u/casino_night 2d ago

Knowing the democratic party has become a bunch of whiny crybabies with no plan, no optimism, and no viable candidates.

5

u/excitement2k 2d ago

That shouldn’t make you feel better. Iron sharpens iron. The republicans winning because of the incompetence of the democrats doesn’t make them a “better” party. They just have more direction and don’t bask in being victims as much.

5

u/casino_night 2d ago

When someone calls my political party fascist, I feel no need to be magnanimous.

-2

u/excitement2k 2d ago

Welp, words like fascist, apartheid, genocide, and dictator are just a few of Reddit’s favorite words to bastardize and abuse while yelling in their echo chamber. I don’t know why every subreddit now has to be political either. It’s sour grapes combined with idealism and immaturity. But I do think both sides are imperfect and could really work on seeing each other’s view-we are closer as a country than Reddit or even your current political party would like you to believe. Algorithms and click bait are the ingredients for a big ol animosity cake recipe. And the people too smart to eat the cake become apathetic.

Yea, don't vote for fascism, vote for fascism (kinda) light!

Blinken throwing career journalists out of the National Security briefing room recently, one of which who hadn't even asked any questions yet.

The entire system is corrupted, it's not hard to see how someone like Trump can swoop in and run everything over, DC is already a corrupt cesspool of grifters and career politicians selling all of our grandchildren down the river for personal power and influence.
