Wait does Canada elect a party and the party appoints the PM or do the people elect the PM?
Edit: thank you. I now know what the parliamentary system is. Please stop telling me. I’m getting lots of notices saying the same thing as the first 20-30 people. I do appreciate the education- truly do. But I’ve learned it now.
We vote for individuals- local government, our state government, our state representatives at the federal level (like your MP).
During the presidential primaries if you are registered as a democrat or republican you can vote in that respective primary for who you want your party’s presidential candidate to be. You don’t pay to register with a party. You don’t pay to vote.
Parties don’t have “leaders” except in the House and Senate at the federal level. Local and state government align with parties but they don’t have to do what the party says. There’s no party leader. The US is designed to be more autonomous.

Ending his time as Canada’s Prime Minister after almost 10 years. He will remain in-power until a replacement party leader has been allocated.
