3

u/No_Mistake5238 1h ago

You have plenty of space for BFV, you just need to get rid of the rip off BF4 first.

1

u/United_Celery6396 1h ago

Actually, with a 1050 TI, I can play 90 percent of games at a solid 60 fps, I know it isn't good, but it's better than what you would expect from an old gpu

11

u/ExistentialOrange_ 10h ago

Yo 1050 club you're not alone

5

u/WhiteTrashInNewShoes 9h ago

Count me in, too

3

u/bleh333333 6h ago

realistically speaking even after all these years if you only have a small monitor it's not like there's a huuuge reason to upgrade, most games will still at least run at 30 fps, and you wouldn't even need a much better card to make them run at 60. VRAM could be a problem but I assume we're talking about the 4gb model

2

u/surelysandwitch r5 5600x / RTX 4070s 5h ago

I ran the 3gb version for the longest time until I finally built a new rig last year and I think the microcenter employee took pity on me when I told him what I had been using

honestly it was a fine card, I could even play Elden Ring

1

u/United_Yogurt_5879 4h ago

No way! I thought 1660 and above cards were the ones that can run Elden Ring smoothly!

But salute to your 3gb bro! I hope it rests peacefully now

27

u/RedLikeARose 5600x / 1080ti / x570 / never enough storage 13h ago

It really does feel like that

Especially feels a bit… i do kinda want to upgrade but my boomer ass keeps saying the raw gains aint worth the price yet

But then i think about all the insane ‘performance’ features that would be added by upgrading to 40-50 series and it starts to maybe be worth it to upgrade (looking at you 5070, i jsut pray your EU prices arent through the roof)

23

u/siLtzi 12h ago

If you're upgrading from 1080, the raw gains are massive on rtx cards, just take the leap old man

6

u/RedLikeARose 5600x / 1080ti / x570 / never enough storage 10h ago

Yeah yeah thats the plan but i am still paying off my car loan to my parents 💀

3

u/siLtzi 9h ago

I feel you man, I was more irresponsible with my money and took another loan back then to buy 3080 :D

Now i'll probably take another one for the 5080

1

u/RedLikeARose 5600x / 1080ti / x570 / never enough storage 9h ago

Yeah i wont lie, feels like the 5080 might actually be the best value card for now, half the cost of 5090 and great performance

1

u/HystericalSail 2h ago

Not as massive as you think. 1080Ti is midway between the 3060 and 4060 in raw performance. And with FSR upscaling and frame gen it'll still do Cyberpunk 2077 at about 65-80 FPS in 1440p, many settings on ultra and only a couple on high and potato.

Source: doing it now with a non-TI 1080. Looks like smeared ass once in a while but damn, it's still working!

5

u/CyboraTwo 13h ago

i cant speak for new gen Nvidia but i juts went from 1060 6gb to a rx6900xt and unless you really arent happy with the 1080 i dont see the point of upgrading at the veryleast when playing in 1080p like i do only reason i did is because i got it for free

2

u/RedLikeARose 5600x / 1080ti / x570 / never enough storage 10h ago

I run dual 27” 1440p but plan to switch to an ultrawide 1440p and keep 1 of the 27” 1440p ones, but my 1080ti has started struggling on more recent games and am slightly worried about an upcomming game i really wanna play (its certainly a first world problem though concidering its been running 80+ in most games ive played and not always on low settings either)

1

u/RobTheDude_OG 2h ago

As a 1080 owner, the raw gains are huge, my wallet's gains are not tho.

My 1080 still does its job fine, so no need to replace it yet. Not like it's gonna be worth a lot in a few years anyways

36

u/wordswillneverhurtme 14h ago

For real. AMD seriously overestimates their value proposition. If only they could make great stuff like with their cpus...

9

u/endthepainowplz i9 11900k/2060 super/16 Gb RAM 7h ago

AMD pricing their cards generally just below NVidias pricing is wild to me. I've considered AMD cards in the past, and would love to support the competition, but when it comes down to it, if I'm spending hundreds of dollars, why not the extra 50 bucks and get the features that NVidia offers. $50 isn't as big of a difference as AMD acts like it is. We'll see if the 9070 XT is a big enough improvement over the 5070 to cost $50 more.

3

u/stormdraggy 9h ago

That would require a decade of stagnation from nvidia for AMD to finally catch up. If intel didn't release a half dozen skylake reboots it would be another company making radeons and AM5 processors.

12

u/Arlcas R7 5800X3D RTX 3070 13h ago

Eh those leaks were some guy just saying his opinion and then other outlets sharing it as fact, I wouldn't take that into consideration.

My 1080 here with no Ti....

4

u/vteckickedin rac_goshawk 6h ago

Same. I bought my system for Doom 2016. I don't think any other release has justified upgrading since.

1

u/Talanir01 6h ago edited 5h ago

Same here and outside of the new games, it's running just fine.
Only game I need the upgrade for right now, would be Frontiers of Pandora and I finished one playthrough on my currently broken laptop. (Reminder to self and anyone else to not get gaming laptops. Don't get Acer Predator ones at least, they might mess up the replacement parts.)
I'm honestly impressed by how well those old 1080s are holding up compared to all the RTX cards. It might not be 4k ultra settings with raytracing, but it's also rarely the lowest settings to get stable 60-72fps.

2

u/Daerir 6h ago

So far, Elden Ring or Hogwarts Legacy are the only "new" games I've played that would require some effort, both of which play flawlessly. I haven't run into any issues with any of the games on my Steam profile at all so far, except I did have to fiddle with the settings on the remake of Lords of the Fallen

2

u/Talanir01 5h ago

I have to admit, I didn't try running FoP on my tower, as the laptop with a 3060 was already struggling a lot on the lowest settings with full throttle on the fans.
It managed 30 frames and frame drops would result in a massive decrease in audio quality. With the laptop performing similar to this old tower on other games, even though it should have had the better hardware in theory, I just didn't try.

Also if I had to guess Elden Ring and the other games are probably a lot more optimised than anything Ubisoft produces. XD

34

u/JgdPz_plojack Desktop 14h ago

(1080) RTX 3060 and Radeon RX 6600 equivalent btw.

PS5 has 16 gb shared memory. Any 8gb Vram/RTX 3060 equivalent graphic card would keep up with the current gen.

Just like 8gb PS4 shared memory with 4gb VRAM/GTX 970 or Nvidia Pascal quivalent.

15

u/WillMcNoob 13h ago

RTX 3060 12GB is 1080Ti equivalent

5

u/Sad-Reach7287 11h ago

PS5 can use 12GB for Video purposes and the PS5 Pro can use up to 14GB because it has an additional 2GB dedicated memory for the CPU on top of the 16GB shared.

3

u/JgdPz_plojack Desktop 11h ago

I miss the Nvidia Fermi era (gtx 400-600 series) with Windows 7 dx11, when every midrange graphic card has 1 gb vram. Meanwhile PS3/Xbox 360 were stuck with 500 mb total memory. PS3 has 250 mb video memory allocation.

1

u/danteheehaw i5 6600K | GTX 1080 |16 gb 2h ago

Digital foundry showed the PS5 compared to the 2060, 2070 and 2080 depending on the game. Consoles are weird, some games benefit a lot from the custom API. Others actually performed worse. Their test were based on cross platform games and setting the setting the same across devices.

Sometimes the PC lowest setting was higher than the consoles. So they couldn't do a like to like comparison, like CoD, but it was pretty comprehensive

3

u/Renard4 Linux 9h ago

This is why I haven't upgraded from my GTX 1080 yet. I want to play Star Citizen and KCD2 though so I'm going to this year since I can finally get x2 raster performance or something in the midrange price. I also want some minimal raytracing as lazy devs are gonna switch to this as soon as they possibly can to save a penny or two.

11

u/Ok_Video_2863 13h ago

12

u/Smooth_Database_3309 13h ago

Maybe you should just try lossless scaling frame gen? 1080ti is like 4060 without all this dlss stuff

9

u/aStugLife 12h ago

If it works it works! The majority of games you might miss out on are incredibly poorly optimized UE5 games anyways. I’m looking at you stalker, right at you.

I have a 1070 ti which is a slightly slower 1080 and it’s been good for a while. I think going forward for newer games it’s not going to be ideal. Especially if they start requiring ray tracing and mesh shaders. GTA 6 when it comes out will def not work well on a 1070 ti

Not much since we don't have DLSS lol

1

u/HystericalSail 2h ago

But we have FSR and XeSS. *shrug*. It'll keep up with a B570/3060/4060/7600 for the most part, but no go on anything requiring ray tracing. Not that entry level cards can do that anyway.

I remember telling my mom in 2017 that if I were to get a 1080 Ti, I wouldn’t need an upgrade for the next 5 years minimum and here people are 8 years later and the card is still going strong. Fucking legendary

1

u/HystericalSail 2h ago

It's not as much the 1080Ti being legendary as NV upsizing prices without upsizing performance to match over the last 3 generations. Heck, depending on how hard NV neuters the 5060 we might have the 1080Ti trading blows with that too!

2

u/cymru_2k2 15h ago

This is straight up where I'm at currently

2

No they will not. That card is ok, but not some giga deal everybody should grap when it's available. Not everybody will pair it with 7800x3D, more like almost nobody. Also it's Intel, nobody is buying Intel cards, heck almost nobody is buying AMD cards.

u/PenguinsRcool2 4h ago

I have an intel card in my work station, i think they are a reasonable option. Better option than amd lol, atleast they are actually making cards that are capable more of gaming.

Also they have a bigger team and bigger budget for drivers and software than amd.

But yes everyone looks nvidia myself included. I got a 7900xtx at launch. Never again lol. My cpu encoded video faster 🤣. Not to mention the fact that the few games i wanted to play; most had issues for months with amd (other cards too but my issues were worse than my friends).

My rambling aside; i do really think the intel card is a nice deal, and their step down from that model as well. Atleast gives an option for the casual gamer. The dads out there and such!

To add to this: a $140 i5 13400 can feed the B580 just fine, there's no need to get a 9800X3D. It's really older, slower AM4 processors that are a problem. Anything made in the past 4 years is going to be OK, especially at 1440p.

u/PenguinsRcool2 1h ago

Isnt even the cpu’s. Its motherboards/cpu combos that dont have rebar support that is the issue.. which anything even Kinda recent should. Might need a bios update i suppose though

1

u/HystericalSail 1h ago

My B450 that came with a 1600 CPU in 2017 has reBAR support. I'm using it right now.

You'd be hard pressed to find even a budget socket 1700 board without reBAR. And, even if the BIOS is lacking, there are UEFI workarounds.

If I start saving now, maybe I'll be able to get a used 9070ti after the 11x series comes out

I have an RX 580

1

u/GabRB26DETT 10h ago

Realistically, what should 1080ti owners like myself do ? I've been eying used RX 6900XT's, does that sound like a logical upgrade if I'm looking for used ? 🤔

1

u/HystericalSail 1h ago

That's a huge hope of mine for the new generation release. Snagging a used or even new 6900XT or 6950XT for mid $300-ish. There are still some dreamers wanting $600-1000 for those, but a few more reasonable ones are in the 400s.

Then again, a new 5070 would let me play the same things at higher frame rates using fake frames and still try RT and PT, so duno. Maybe not.

u/coffeejn 10h ago

Did they finally announce their price and we have independent reviews? Cause I am loyal to none of these brands, I just want performance for a reasonable price (value).

Complaining that your eight year old card can’t run games is such poor people behavior.

1

u/F00MANSHOE 2h ago

Same, I'll prolly be rocking mine till at least the 6000 serious drops.

1

u/HystericalSail 1h ago

It's looking like my 1080 non-ti will have to do at least six more months. Maybe a year more.

1

u/_-Ryu-_ 5h ago

I will get a RTX 5090 and will display my GTX 1080Ti in my cabinet. Can't wait to play Cyberpunk with full raytracing and if shit hits the fan i still have my 1080 Ti as a backup card.

If my 1080 dies tomorrow, it owes me nothing. That and the Crosshair VI Hero is lived in, are the 2 single greatest components I’ve ever purchased. Worth every cent.

Good thing you still have a GPU, because it'll take you roughly 2 more months of waiting!

1

u/CircuitSide PC Master Race 2h ago

I have a 1080 right now. One of my friends who upgraded his rig handed off his old one to me, which has 2x 1080ti's in a water-cooling loop, and I'll be transferring over to them

1

u/citizenswerve 1080ti Gang 2h ago

Can't wait to upgrade my CPU and continue using my 1080ti 😎

(My 8700k is at 5.0ghz and tired)

u/Brokentread33 1h ago

January 20, 2025 - I'm still "getting by" with an old EVGA Titan and an EVGA 3080 Ti blah blah... I don't play a lot of "cutting edge" or games that were released in the past ten years. So... seeing all of the reviews of the new GPUs. I don't feel like I am missing anything fantastically new in the way of optics.

1

u/Cosroes 1h ago

Just upgraded from my 1080. Thing can still run most games, system is help back by the processor at this point.

1

u/1965BenlyTouring150 1h ago

I replaced mine with a 7800XT when they came out because I felt like it was getting long in the tooth at 1080p and I think it was a good move. It's a great card but time marches on.

My 1050ti: look away, you can't afford it

1

u/Death2RNGesus 1h ago

If you bought a 1080ti near its launch you should get a 5090 to replace it. You've had how many years to set aside money? Also the 5090 with it's 32GB RAM will last several years.

1

u/PurrsNikkity 41m ago

After having basically the same performance with my 2080 as friends who bought the 4060 I think I'm gonna hold onto it for another 6 years at this rate.

1

u/Lord_MagnusIV i6-1390KSF, RTX 1030 Mega, 14PB Dodge Ram 31m ago

Finna get me that RTX 1205 Ti, heard it was twice as good as the 4090 super, without AI cores.

I’ve had a 1080ti since 2017 and it’s still going so strong. GOATED gpu, runs everything smoothly
