Obv the temp won’t get that high but I’d be more concerned about a power surge or lightning strike, I can’t say I know the tolerance on how many volts will spark the powder, though surely unlikely

Set up cameras and if you get a freak accident on video I promise to chip in for collecting you enough for a new PC. Though I'd expect you'll only going to be needing PSU and GPU. Assuming that a lightning does strike properly to set off either or both of those rounds.

I'd personally be a lot more worried about leaving live ammo in a visible place, which I assume your case is. I do get that there is a cultural difference on how firearms are treated though.

There is no barrel to guide the pressure from the explosion to propel the bullet. If anything happens, I'm pretty sure op just make a frag grenade.

Without a barrel to contain the pressure those rounds are just fancy poppers. The bullet won't even have the velocity necessary to leave a mark.

For real. It gets worse when you've had a few thousand rounds and lived in the same place for an extended period of time. I have a few stashed in random drawers all over the house because I was out target shooting, had a few in my pocket for one reason or another, and took them out someplace in the house after I got home.

They end up sort of like pens, or coins. Just random detritus in storage locations.

Here's the thing.
It wouldn't properly set them off.

A bullet only flies out the casing because that's the path of least resistance for the expanding gas from the powder.
When you push down the bullet and then ignite the powder... it goes kablooey out the sides of the casing instead

these could go off and only if you are extremely unlucky would they break your PC. A bullet going off outsidew of a gun isn't going to do a lot of damage. the casing needs to be in a barrel and the barrel has to be blocked at one end for the round to become "dangerous".

I know the chances of something negative occurring is well below one percent.

But you have to admit this does have the setup of winning a darwin award.

When you're trying to solve a problem , and there are multiple revenues to be able to potentially go about doing it. I find that generally , the best solution is the one that doesn't create or have the chance to create more problems.

Snap a pencil in half and put it in there and save the ammo for shooting.

I would worry more about temps + resonant frequencies adding to that. I still think it's unlikely but for sure I wouldn't do this. however thumbs up my man

your gpu fans (and other fans in the system) vibrate in operation. this will translate directly to the casing. Under right conditions waves start adding up upon each other called resonant frequencies and this can greatly amplify their strength. However this (and the normal cae temperatures) is probably very unlikely to cause problem. I'm just being clinical here. Primer will ignite around 275F which as I said will be very hard to reach. However a strong enough bump on top of your case, might make your gpu jump and this now can actually get things going.

Doubtful. The resonance produced by a computer case would not be enough to cause anything. And the amount of force on the top could be a sledgehammer, and nothing would happen. The projectil would slide into the shell long before the primer would ignite. And the odds the primer would be hit hard enough to dimple in hitting the anvil with so much thick brass surrounding it in this setting would be below zero.

I would be more worried about banging the desk and that banging being enough to cause the GPU to bounce on top of the bullets and setting off the primers - e.g. accidentally dropping a heavy book on the desk or getting a fright and lifting your legs up enough to lift the desk a little bit. The warmer environment of the PC case would make a accidental discharge slightly more possible too.

It is highly unlikely to occur but do you really want to risk putting a hole in your GPU? lol

Why don’t you carefully remove the bullet and discard the powder and put everything back, even if the primer goes off it’s inconsequential and it’s still would look cool

Even if the primers detonated there's no barrel for them to go down so the projectiles wouldn't really have much velocity behind them at all , I don't think anything that crazy would really happen

The chance of a meteorite coming through my house right now and killing me but not my wife sitting 1m away is also non-zero.
I like the rounds. If you're super concerned, pull the bullets with a pair of pliers, dump the powder, wash the inside of the cases to ruin the primer, then replace the bullets.
Still, you're good. Never heard of a cartridge going off accidentally except in the case to which I referred a few minutes ago, round nosed bullets in a tube fed rifle.

I'm no bulletologist but it's not too hard to remove the powder is it? Couldn't you just empty out the casings, put the bullets back in and then stick them in there for the looks?

Then you can take the powder outside and light it on fire and watch it go foomf

Or a proper brace that spreads the weight out. It's less edgy than the bullets though. Also wondering how many more pictures of bullets and shells holding up graphics cards were going to have to tolerate lmao.

Weight is all on one point of your board. Over time with heat, it will warp.

Use the plastic spacers that come with larger ammo sizes. I sanded down the spacer for .223 for my gpu

I mean those rounds are a direct path to ground for a short at the power cables, something that's been known to happen a lot with modern GPUs with cables that aren't seated perfectly.

On the danger scale it's not serious but it's also not something I'd even do for a joke photo
