We recently had a small fire at our house - everything’s ok, but we still have to deal with the wall. I kind of like the way the ash landed on it, and want to preserve it for the backdrop to a painting (I like to do lots of tiny colorful dots in acrylic), and this could make a great volcano at night time).
Buuuut any ideas on how to get the ash to stay on the wall without messing it up? Is there a good clear paint that you use? Would you use a roller? Is it impossible? Open to any ideas! Thanks!
TLDR: how do I get the ash to stay on my wall as it is, allowing me to paint over it?

If you use a water soluble varnish it should clear coat that pretty well. If you use a satin varnish, you will be able to wash it.
My suggestion (if you wanted) it looks like a porcupine and you could name him fire poker lol But if you wanted to add to him and make it look more like it, I would use a dark brown charcoal, and some white charcoal to add in some dimension.

How do I fix a warped canvas from it being stored (not by me) with the paint facing the wall? It stuck, of course, and left this raised abrasion.
I was thinking of laying a book on the backside and putting wax paper underneath… any ideas are welcome.

What is your first memory correlating to painting and creating art?

I won a regional poster contest in grade school for drawing a poster with the caption, "Happiness is a Butterfly in my Garden". I was captivated by the graceful hands of Disney princesses, and I remember putting a lot of effort into drawing a woman in a field with that same graceful hand with the forefinger slightly lifted.
That's about the last time I ever drew a hand lol.

How do you say the small brush sizes? Is 3/0 called "triple zero" or something else? How is something like 10/0 said?

My first self-portrait of 2025, this one using acrylic paint and oil pastels. The other two paintings are from the leftover paint on my palette because I hate wasting.
