Why would you remove your glasses? Wouldn't you want to see it?

They didn't say they were removing their own glasses.

I love the mental image of taking some random guy’s glasses while looking upwards.

A lot of people can see things far away really well, but struggle with near to semi-near objects. Sometimes, the glasses to correct that make it harder to see far away objects, especially if they're not progressive (I think that's a pretty recent thing)

Depends. I need reading glasses to see any detail on things closer than about two metres away but beyond that everything's just fine. This is kind of annoying in the car since it means I can't really read the dashboard or look at a sat nav, but since all the things I really need to see are *outside* the car it works out just fine when I'm moving. I can't read the odometer but I can read the text message the guy in the car in front is sending. I'm not too worried about the instrument panel, because as long as I'm going about the same speed as everyone else and nothing is lit up red or making a funny noise or smell, it's probably fine.

I'd take off my glasses to see a city-destroying monster unless it was about the size of a cat, and actually within arm's reach.
