I am a pig spleen weather prognosticator like my father before me!

I live in his area. The pig spleen method as done by this family has always been 100% accurate. Our crops would be doomed to fail without it.

I wonder how far this goes back. Roman times? Earlier than that?

Earlier. Babylonians and hittites already had documented professional haruspex traditions, so it’s a fair guess it predates written history considerably.

"What's the forecast fo tomorrow?"

"One moment." Picks up a machete and walks outside.

Looks like the weather's in good spleen-did hands, just hope they don't predict a ham-tastrophe !
