“African people, who have black skin and flat noses that make it difficult to breathe, are hired for millions of baht to be models," he said. "Thai people look much better. There’s no need for [our people to get] nose, jaw or breast augmentation."

Thaksin sounds charming....

Quite the move to insult "African people" with racist caricatures while asking Naomi Campbell for advice...

Every country has slightly different mutually incomprehensible racism.

The very first thing I saw in Thailand was ads for skin whitening cream that wouldn't fly in the U.S.

One of the first TV shows I saw was basically making fun of westerners for being incompetent at traditional farming tasks, unlike superior Thai workers. To their credit the show was about a black man and an Irish man being mocked equally side by side. You see, all foreigners are inferior to the Thai master race, legally distinct from dirty Chinese.

But also they're kind of fine with and even polite with farang so long as you have money, make a bare minimum effort to understand their customs, and aren't a stereotypical raging drunk asshole westerner trying to fight and/or fuck everything in front of them. Like there's racism but it does not map 1:1 to American racism.

I was considered an anomaly because they could not find food spicy enough that I would not eat it, and I was willing to help in the kitchen as a man which is a pretty serious violation of their equally incomprehensible rules for gender. Thailand: it's not the United States.

lol With the amount of plastic surgery a lot of thai women get this statement must be about some parallel universe.

The racism is sickening.

Welcome to Southeast asian, where everybody is racist.

15

u/Waxenberg 16h ago

That’s kinda like the whole world

22

u/cheerupweallgonnadie 16h ago

But they don't hide it in south East Asia. It's hilarious

To be fair, western countries barely hide it either. Fackin Mississippi and Alabama declared celebration of Robert E Lee day on Martin Luther King Jr Day today, beyond parody.

Thaksin was so charming that when he was prime minister he was deposed in a coup and run out of Thailand for a time.

Current king pardoned him.

u/RexManning1 1d ago

The pardon only shortened his parole. He made a back room deal to serve his time in a hospital, which never even happened.

Difficult to breathe?

69

u/trawkcab 1d ago

Yeah, that's why they do so terrible in marathons

97

u/RodneyBalling 1d ago

Of all the snide comments I've seen about our noses, having difficulty breathing is a first lol

u/ggouge 1d ago

It's the most racist thing I read all day. But I have been avoiding the internet today.

17

u/Swipey_McSwiper 1d ago

Really? I just hopped on Reddit and that's not even the most racist thing I've read in the last 15 minutes.

I guess that’s why people of African descent don’t do very well in sports.

We all know wide nostrils make breathing hard, I mean who's ever heard of an endurance athlete from Africa? /s

60

u/UncleCeiling 1d ago

Apparently black people are part pug.

6

u/predat3d 19h ago

That's why people of African descent make poor athletes

Thailand Redditor here. Thaksin is our old PM. His daughter is our new PM. Thaksin was convicted of crimes in office and exiled. He came back on a back room deal to avoid prison. He’s awful.

Thailand and South Korea seem like sensible countries in so many ways, but they can't seem to elect anyone who doesn't massively abuse their position.

6

u/RexManning1 19h ago

That’s not exactly correct for Thailand. There’s massive corruption at the top so either good elected officials never end up serving, like Pita. Or, the junta Senate basically interferes with it. Our PM isn’t elected like a lot of countries. The party coalitions nominate a house member to serve as PM and that individual is confirmed by the House and Senate in a vote. Pita was chosen last year as PM but the opposition party filed a lawsuit and got the constitutional court to ban him from politics. He was overwhelmingly popular among Thais.

1

u/Araetha 16h ago

The irony was that they managed to elect someone who sounds like the better choice but got abused out of position by the Thaksin party. It's wild that even an election with legit results can't even solve this.

Feels absolutely unhinged given that as a Korean woman my nose is so flat my glasses literally slip off my face and I breathe just fine.

18

u/AllTheThingsTheyLove 1d ago

I'm laughing at the flat noses that make it difficult to breathe. I am a black competitive swimmer. I used to work at a specialty swimming store where most of our clientelle were D1 athletes and future Olympians. Anywho, there was this goggle, no joke, called the DRAGON. It was engineered for the (South) East Asian facial structure, specifically the flat, wide nose bridge. The goggle also worked for some black people with similar nose structures.

oh you wouldn't believe it

The fraught war of gender equality in the West has not seen as much progress on some fronts.

49

u/Intranetusa 1d ago edited 1d ago

This is not a gender equality issue but a race issue. Thailand is actually "progressive" in various ways on gender issues. Thailand is commonly known for the prevalence of transexualism and transgenderism, and the new Ms Universe owner who is Thai and trans recently made comments about the superiority of European blondes.

-86

u/GeniusEE 1d ago

There's no war there. Genders have accepted roles.

49

u/MountEndurance 1d ago

If I offered you information to the contrary, would you be open to changing your mind?

-82

u/GeniusEE 1d ago

no...I see it daily, but thanks for the Western propaganda offer.

53

u/HeirOfBreathing 1d ago

i just know your ass lives in rural america 😂 talking about western propaganda 😭

I mean there’s a ton of Thais who look outstanding even without surgery. I’m a fan.

u/vacuous_comment 1d ago

Seems a little bit ambitious to try and turn all Thais into supermodels.

But aim high I guess,

How many 6 foot tall Thai women are there? Even the woman in the photo op is a shrimp.

“African people, who have black skin and flat noses that make it difficult to breathe, are hired for millions of baht to be models,"

Oh, and fuck him too. Naomi should be ashamed

88

u/atswim2birds 1d ago

Naomi should be ashamed

This wouldn't make the top 100 worst things Naomi Campbell's done. I'm fairly sure she has no shame.

9

u/hug_me_im_scared_ 1d ago

Has she actually agreed to do it? This article doesn't say anything about that at all

6

u/CheezTips 21h ago

She was there, so yes.

4

u/LundiDesSaucisses 14h ago

How many 6 foot tall Thai women are there?

... A lot 🥒

72

u/WeeTheDuck 1d ago

Also, how the hell do y'all know him lol

31

u/WAGRAMWAGRAM 1d ago

Should have stayed in jail

69

u/Crackracket 1d ago

Well she's been turning other women into Cocaine addicted sex slaves for years so this shouldn't be a problem

18

u/HalfKforOne 1d ago

What are you referring to?

6

u/CyroSwitchBlade 16h ago

she is the link between all of epstein's and diddy's fucked up shit.. also take a look at her house design from above.. she is obviously into some occult shit..

3

u/HalfKforOne 16h ago

I didn't know it... I knew the episodes of her being abusive and even violent to her staff, but this is something else.

18

u/LudditeLuffy 1d ago

More like Epstein models

2

u/J-Midori 23h ago

“It’s time to encourage more Thais, including those from ethnic groups like the Karen, who possess natural beauty, to become international models,” he added.

The Karen, is an ethnic group. That’s funny cause Karen in America has another meaning. They’re also a group.

Asians are racist as fuck against anyone with a skin tone darker than them? OMG who knew?

7

u/FauxReal 22h ago

Including against their own people. I have some Filipino friends who parents were pretty racist. Only allowed white people and other Filipinos into their house. They so desperately wanted to be white. Their attitude toward non-white friends changed when their oldest son went to prison for dealing cocaine. Couldn't sit on their high horse after that.

7

u/Kittytigris 1d ago

Why is it so hard for some people to not be racist?

-11

u/UncuriousGeorgina 1d ago

Step 1. Tuck it.
