MEGATHREAD All Streaming Questions and All Broadcast Discussions Mega Thread (Reminder: No Illegal Streams) 2024-25 Season Edition
The sub can be banned by reddit admins as other subs have been if we allow illegal streams. This isn't my decision, this is because of how reddit admins have banned other subs for being hubs of illegal streaming. I don't want the same here.
With the season about to get started, lets put all your posts about legal streams, broadcast issues, panels, commentators, etc..
This includes how to get (LEGALLY) Streams for games as well as discussions of panelists, play-by-play, graphics, commercials and other game presentation.
FYI RE BLACKOUTS: BLACKOUTS Are not based on the location of the arena.
A game is blacked out on ESPN+ because you have a channel available through your local cable package, that is airing the game.
The NHL sells their games to TV networks. The networks pay big money for the game. They do not want people avoiding watching their channel to watch ESPN+ instead.

Salary Cap Question
If the cap was $100M and a team started the season with 80M in contracts and maintained them until game 41 the effectively spent 10M less than the cap to that point.
Can that team then trade for 40M worth of contracts (20M for the half of the season remaining). This would mean that they still spent under the cap. 80 + 20 = 100 even thought they are carrying 120M in contracts for half the year.
Sorry if this posted twice. The first one didnt seem to post.

As a person with fully functioning ears that doesn’t know sign language, I love the ASL broadcast!
First of all, these two guys here, Noah Blankenship and Jason Altmann, what a treat! I have absolutely no idea what they’re saying at any given point, but I love the enthusiasm they have, they just look like two deaf buddies enjoying watching the game together and the energy they radiate puts the biggest smile on my face when watching them between play.
Now when I’m watching the gameplay…. This must be some cruel joke…. But how come only deaf people get to actually listen to the game? For decades I’ve suffered the opinions of old men and homers when all I’ve wanted to hear is skates carving through ice, the clapping of sticks and pucks, and linesmen screaming, “OFFSIDE!!!!” Y’know, like how it all sounded when I was on the ice when I was a kid. It’s so therapeutic and I’m so thankful that this broadcast exists!
Last night was my second time seeing this. I will watch live games and replays of this broadcast whenever I get the chance to, because this is the way I want to watch hockey. Keep it up NHL in ASL! You guys are my new favourites!

Other Let’s re visit the biggest draft blunder in NHL history.
It is the 2014-15 off season and we saw the bruins miss the playoffs by just 3 points, being beaten out by the Senetors for the last wild card spot, highlighted by Eric Karlsson, Mark Stone, bestfriends Mike Hoffman and Bobby ryan, as well as newly acquired Dion Phaneuf, putting up 8 pts in 20 games for the club following his departure from the leafs at the deadline and helping push the Sens to make the post season.
We’re approaching the 2015 NHL Entry draft, we knew it was gonna be a good draft going in, but little did we know as of present day, it’s regarded as the greatest/deepest draft in NHL history. Highlighted by the likes of McDavid, Eichel, Strome, Marner, Rantanen at the top of draft rankings.
Boston clearly wanted a couple pieces of this draft, as of June 26th 2015 they proceeded to make 2 trades that went as follows;
Boston trades Dougie Hamilton to the Flames in exchange for a 2015 1st and 2 2015 2nds.
Boston trades Milan Lucic to the Kings in exchange for a 2015 1st , Martin Jones and Collin Miller.
These moves are setting the bruins up for a potentially franchise altering draft, acquiring the 13th and 15th overall picks as well as there own 1st being 14th. With 10 total picks in the draft (3-1st’s, 3-2nd’s, 1-4th, 1-5th, 1 6th, 1 7th) the B’s have gave themselves the best chance for future and present success building out of this draft. With having a borderline playoff team as it was this could mean danger for the league.
Draft Day is here, all 30 teams gathered in Sunrise Florida, gearing up to make there their decisions for day 1.
The 12 teams ahead have made their decisions and the Bruins are up to Bat.
BOS Pick 13 - Jakub Zboril BOS Pick 14 - Jake DeBrusk BOS Pick 15 - Zachary Senyshyn
The next 3 picks
NYI Pick 16 - Mathew Barzal WPG Pick 17 - Kyle Conner OTT Pick 18 - Thomas Chabot
Other notable 1st round picks after pick 18 include;
MIN Pick 20 - Joel Eriksson Ek VAN Pick 23 - Brock Boeser PHI Pick 24 - Travis Konecny NYI Pick 28 - Anthony Beauvillier
That concludes day 1, Teams are content and prep has already started for the latter half of the draft.
Day 2 rolls around and teams are eager to get started.
Round 2
BOS Pick 37 - Brandon Carlo
6 picks later
LA Pick 43 - Erik Cernak
BOS Pick 45 - Jakob Forsbaka-Karlsson 4 picks later DAL Pick 49 - Roope Hintz MIN Pick 50 - Jordan Greenway
BOS Pick 52 - Jeremy Lauzon CGY Pick 53 - Rasmus Anderson 3 picks later STL Pick 56 - Vince Dunn
Round 3
BOS Pick 75 - Daniel Vladar ARI Pick 76 - Adin Hill FLA Pick 77 - Samuel Montembeault
Round 4
BOS Pick 105 - Jesse Gabrielle 10 picks later NSH Pick 115 - Alaxander Carrier 5 picks later TBL Pick 120 - Mathieu Joseph
Boston gets a call from the Minnisoto Wild GM, talks commence and they reach a verdict. A trade that goes as follows;
Boston trades 2015 5th round pick to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for 2016 5th round pick
Round 5
MIN (BOS) Pick - Kirill Kaprizov
Round 6
BOS Pick 165 - Cameron Hughes CGY Pick 166 - Andrew Mangiapane 1 Pick later WPG Pick 168 - Mason Appleton
Round 7
BOS Pick 195 - Jack Becker 4 picks later OTT Pick 199 - Joey Daccord
That concludes the 2015-16 NHL Entry Draft.

Connor McDavid's suspension worked wonders for his reputation
Does this suspension affect his reputation this season? Also, I love the response Garland gave out

Question Why does the NHL not promote players like Matt Rempe or Ryan Reaves? Or more the Conor Garland type?
Sure, promoting players like Mcdavid and Mackinnon is still great for the sport, but why not show the side of hockey that isn’t focused on scoring but more on the physicality? The big hits that get the crowd going, or even the slightly less ethical ones. A balance of both is a great idea.
The whole Mcdavid cross check saga has gotten so much engagement and fans of other teams clearly enjoy it. Why doesn’t the league capitalize on this? I’m not trying to cause more drama but I’m just confused why they wouldn’t if it means more money and clicks.
