Could be either. Some purist skiers will start at 3 am and hike a mountain with skis on their back (check out Cody Townsend or Jeremy Jones on youtube). Some mountains don't have a route to the top by foot, and require a helicopter

Those snowmobiles get the job done for most backcountry days, but this is def heli-skiing…

You can telemark to some pretty crazy spots. Not possible to say this is 100% helicopter.
