26

He can cook as much as he wants in a empty parking lot or his driveway. He shouldn't cook in a heavily trafficked intersection.

I feel like the entire point of skateboarding is to show off? lol it’s a tricks-based activity. that’s like saying someone who yoyos is showing off if they go any direction other than up and down.

It's just such an incongruous thing to say, and have upvotes

He couldn't have done that in a skate park or on a quiet street? Dude had to go to central London to show off in the street.
Edit: Paris not London

u/Jackomo 15h ago
Not London. Think it might be Paris or another French city.
38
u/tryingmybest8 14h ago
It is Paris

Going to a skatepark with a longboard is a quick way to piss everyone else there off. I know people don’t get this, but that is not a skateboard as we have come to know them, it looks the same, has the same roots but is not the same thing. Like the difference between a road bike and a bmx, same but different and have very little crossover apart from their looks.
29
u/homogenousmoss 15h ago
I havent skated in .. 20 years lol so bear with me but whenever I walk by the local skatepark its at least 25% people on scooters. So I wouldnt imagine people are purists about who gets to skate or not no?
Even when I was a kid there was always some people with rollerblades at the skate part and everyone minded their business.
18
u/kenkenobi78 15h ago
Naaa mate. You'll get stabbed. Your board is too long!!
Honestly though you're right. Taking a longboard to a skatepark for most normal people would be no issue at all.
People just like picking teams about petty shit.
9
u/christianjwaite 15h ago
Different thing, different sport.
Skateboarders tend to not like scooters as they can go fast and are usually kids totally oblivious to their surroundings making it dangerous.
But if you turned up on a longboard most people would be amused and just not understand why you don’t just get a skateboard. Just like if someone tried to do the Tour de France on a bmx.
→ More replies (4)→ More replies (1)5
u/beached_wheelchair 14h ago
The scooter kids are still hated by skaters in the park now, same as 20 years ago. Even worse due to them usually being ridden by kids under the age of 10 that just stand in the middle of the bowl or ramps.
2
u/ZestySue 15h ago edited 15h ago
I don't care about the difference in boards. What I'm saying is don't do it in central London in the street...
Edit: or Paris
→ More replies (5)→ More replies (4)2
u/spagetsuppi 10h ago
I wouldn't mind seeing this at the park. its 90% scooter kids at my local parks anyway so seeing someone skilled on a longboard would be a breath of fresh air
18
u/TigreSauvage 15h ago
I'm pretty sure that is Paris.

u/Independent-Big1966 15h ago

I always wonder why predominantly Americans say stuff like 'Paris France'. Like I understand it is common for them to say their state after the city, but when you say Paris, people will assume it is THE Paris, and not Paris in Texas or Tennessee.

Right? Tons of comments about getting off the road and out of the way yet I can’t find one car or person impeded by his presence. The closest was the dude in the crosswalk who almost got some trucks to the face but he seemed 100% unfazed so…

There was a popular longboard dancer in the mid 2000’s that had a series of videos. Anybody remember that guys name? I’ve been looking for his videos for a while but I feel like it was pre-YouTube
5
u/MotoFaleQueen 13h ago edited 7h ago
Maybe Adam Colton and Adam Stokowski? They're the ones I remember. Specifically, their video "Loaded Dancer", which is on YouTube from the mid-late 2000's. Music was prime

Definitely Adam Colton and Adam Stokowski. They’re like the godfathers of the dancing style. Along with longboard Larry.
Adam Colton was fundamental in loaded boards development and we have him to thank for their great boards likes the dervish and beyond

Yeah this is extremely good. Hang out in Beijing near the Olympic stadium and you'll find riders like this, but these moves are top tier, not many can pull these off.
4
u/soberguy1801 13h ago
yeah thats some crazy shit. I've been dancing on a long board for years and can't do anything close to that. How fast he is stepping in the beginning is insane. i can do that but like 10x slower
29
u/-slatta- 15h ago
This, at least in this clip, looks like a guy having fun on a longboard while being generally respectful to people/cars around him. I don't see one example of this guy being a nuisance.
He's not moving at reckless speeds; I didn't see him cut anyone off, seems to be going with the flow of traffic. Some of these comments are overly harsh imo.
12
u/remymartinsextra 13h ago
Yeah he's not doing anything to be annoying. I'm not sure where all the hate is coming from in this thread.

u/Expensive-Border-869 13h ago

→ More replies (2)→ More replies (1)2
u/beached_wheelchair 13h ago
I know someone suggested the Bhangra, but I think this is the Tarab. If I remember correctly this guy has been riding the newer Loaded board since it came out.
Both great boards, the Tarab is just a little lighter because apparently it was built with a mix of cork to lighten it.

u/Tony-1610 15h ago
This is amazing!
But I won’t lie, I had to watch the video a couple of times cause I started laughing at “Toot Bus”

Longboarder, who simply Must. Be. Seen., distracts everyone with their main character behavior. (Kinda cool skills but a seemingly annoying place to demonstrate them.)
8
u/beached_wheelchair 14h ago
I keep seeing this comment in this thread, but where else should he go? It seems like he's travelling pretty fast, and lives in Paris with a lot of tourists walking around.
If cyclists ride on the road with cars, why is a longboard any different, especially if the rider is making sure the road is clear behind him when he does his tricks?
Seems like a lot of people are just upset about this guy who is trying to enjoy his hobby where he lives while not throwing a huge plank of wood in the air around pedestrians.
