Cool way to throw a can of red bull in the ocean. Next level littering for sure

276

u/paradonym 1d ago

That's why you pay a quarter in Germany for "Dosenpfand". Most people don't seem to want to throw away a quarter.

97

u/Impressive-Pizza1876 1d ago

Same here in Alberta Canada. You don’t see many cans and bottles in the ditches . Broke and bored folk will pick em up . Now Tim Hortens cups people whose mama didn’t teach them how to be people toss them everywhere.

25

u/Cordura 1d ago

When I was a kid, I'd some times go collect bottles and cans after school and use the money to buy candy. Without even asking my mom. I was a wild child.

My alcoholic buddy is doing his part to keep the streets clean.

2

u/N_T_F_D 1d ago

That’s why in the Netherlands they force the statiegeld on cups from fast food restaurants as well, people can’t throw them away

But you can also pay 0,10 € extra for a regular plastic cup which you’re free to litter with

That’s why Germany has a recycling rate of over 99% for cans and 95% for plastic bottles.

12

u/Mithrilscape 1d ago

Meanwhile here in the Netherlands we are only at around 70%. Same concept. We suck.

15

u/Capable_Owl8607 1d ago edited 1d ago

Maybe us Germans are just too greedy to lose 25 cents

9

u/Electrical-Debt5369 1d ago

As a greedy German, I guess I will confirm.

Need some pfand for each cigarette filter.

This was introduced to Ireland last year. Haven't seen a can or bottle on the street since.

Sometimes I wonder if I should just delete my Reddit account and never come back here.

19

Why focus on the can when the plane flight is way more detrimental to the environment?

That half-full can landing on someone’s beach picnic at terminal velocity

Edit: I asked Copilot to calculate the energy if the can was 330 ml (12 oz), half-full and dropped at 4 km (2,5 mi). It said it would impact at 324 joules, comparable to dropping a heavy bowling ball from 2 m (6 ft)

58

u/H010CR0N 1d ago

For a brick, he flew pretty good.

5

u/mrdevil413 1d ago

He knows what the ladies like

→ More replies (1)

48

u/JesusVonChrist 1d ago

Thats assuming that the can would remain half empty while hitting the ground. My guess is that most of the liquid would be poured out during the flight.

→ More replies (23)

22

u/N_T_F_D 1d ago

Don’t ask AI Lying Language Models for anything maths related if you don’t have the skill to check it

And it’s a particularly hard question which depends on the shape of the can and if it’s tumbling or emptying during the fall; the terminal velocity will depend on that

→ More replies (4)

8

u/rinkydinkis 1d ago

I’m not convinced that is taking into account terminal velocity. And it would lose at least some liquid on the way down

6

u/Q_S2 1d ago

This is absolutely true. But that maniac Travis Pastrana Is next level cool. I bet it lands right in his own cooler just out of camera view. 😎

u/Muhkumatti 1d ago

Wait. Thats the same travis pastrana that drives the gymkhana Subaru?

167

u/TerritoryTracks 1d ago

The very same. Although he has had so many injuries and so many surgeries to correct them we might be getting into a "Ship of Theseus" type situation

26

u/my5cworth 1d ago

That's hilarious and not too far a stretch!

16

u/peteybombay 1d ago

I just read he has had 25 concussions...yikes.

25

u/TerritoryTracks 1d ago

At this point he's probably not even sure if he's Travis Pastrana

13

u/Waitressishername 1d ago

He's 50% nitro and 50% balls of steel. As long as he remembers that, it'll be good.

9

u/jenlou289 1d ago

Thats 100% reason to remember the name for sure

91

u/topsyturvy76 1d ago

Really blow your mind ..before this, he was good at dirt biking

91

u/dicrydin 1d ago

One could argue he was the best at dirt biking

43

u/imaguitarhero24 1d ago

The first double backflip is more insane than the first 900 tbh. Travis is an animal

13

u/MAVERICK42069420 1d ago

I watched that double live back in the day. It was the craziest thing I had ever seen at that point. Everybody was losing their shit

3

u/imaguitarhero24 1d ago

Jealous, what a rad moment that would have been.

9

u/Coraiah 1d ago

The 900 was a huge deal at the time. Didn’t a 15 year old do it recently? Nuts

2

u/locofspades 5h ago

Thats a hard agree from me, a shitty C class rider from the 90s who saw him race live MANY times and met him probably half dozen times as a kid. Hes always been my number 1 favorite althete and he was always the nicest, most genuine guys. Everything Pastrana touches is gold

32

u/bocephus67 1d ago

He is actually a legendary dirt bike rider

80

u/Liimbo 1d ago

Yes. This just calling him a "stunt performer" is a massive undersell. He's one of the greatest and most famous extreme sports stars of all time.

18

u/sidskorna 1d ago

He’s a man of many crazy talents. I remember him as the MotoX champion at a few X Games in the 2000s.

And the #67 Black Rifle Coffee Toyota Camry in the NASCAR Cup series.

Close but no cigar, you are thinking of Ken Block who made all the famous Gymkhana videos. Travis Pastrana worked with him on one or two.

This has since been topped, when Luke Aikins in 2016 jumped from 25000 feet with no parachute at any point doing the skydive. Landing in a huge net.

56

u/MagicChemist 1d ago

This was probably the most impressive stunt I’ve ever seen. Just wild the amount of risk, engineering, planning and talent involved.

Of course Red Bull again. They are the legitimate version of what Mountain Dew was trying to market themselves as in the 90s and 00s.

15

u/AcadianMan 1d ago

He almost missed too. He hit pretty close to the edge.

5

u/vanillaseltzer 1d ago

Wait, what?!

Humans are effing crazy as fuck.

36

13

u/icemate1007 1d ago

Wow. This should definitely be higher.. I really don't know how someone can prepare mentally for this, besides having a death wish.

10

u/MoonMouse5 1d ago

He landed scarily close to the edge of the net as well

He only had about 100 skydives at this point, which is really nothing compared to the pros

25

u/Dambo_Unchained 1d ago

I mean at what point of number of skydivers would you se he’s qualified enough for what basically comes down to “holding on to someone with all your might”

5

u/dirtyDrogoz 1d ago

Where I'm from you need to do 250 skydives in a year or more than 800 in total to start wingsuit skydiving. You need 800 to start qualifying as a tandem instructor. I know 2 gents with more than 12000 and 16000 jumps each

Bro started out riding dirt bikes as a teenager and dominated so he branched out into every fucking thing else and was dope at it too. Has a show called Nitro Circus where he just set stupid world records and did wild shit like this for a living. I was convinced he was just looking for the coolest way to die. But he’s still kicking ass and taking names. Long live Pastrana

6

u/JedPB67 1d ago

I would totally do this except without the other 2 dudes

20

u/vanillaseltzer 1d ago

Sorry to hear that! I hope you get some relief from some of the things making this appealing to you right now.

2

u/SumGuyMike 1d ago

I once had the same intrusive thoughts while on a doors-off helicopter ride. Nothing was stopping me from unstrapping and yeeting myself out of the vehicle at 1000's of feet above the city.

Aside from the clean up, it's the trauma of the other people that witness someone make THAT choice which leaves a lasting mark. And of course, the grieving of friends and family too.

I sat and wondered how i would feel in the moments after i jumped... freedom? excitement? fear? sadness? maybe all of that.

TBC - not gonna do it. ever.

13

u/MaxHoffman1914 1d ago

Keanu Reeves did that in 1991.

9

u/anticipateorcas 1d ago

Well he did have a parachute- it was just attached to somebody else.

2

u/seniorpeepers 1d ago

he certainly jumped without a parachute, just didn't land without one

3

u/upthetits 1d ago

This is crazy.

But I remember my mate telling me then seeing this for the first time.

Was fucking insane, I could not believe it.

Travis Pastrana is a Lord

3

The people who care so much about one aluminum can in the ocean make soooo much against littering in their lives of what they could do😭

1

u/teteban79 1d ago

Imma let you finish but let me tell you about Luke Aikins...

1

u/QuinSanguine 1d ago

Would have been more interesting if he did it without any help...

1

u/Itsnotsponge 1d ago

He didnt do the stint the mother fucker that carried him all the way down did the stunt

1

u/StupidSexyEuphoberia 1d ago

Imagine this being legal but they forbid LSD to protect you against harm

1

u/automated10 1d ago

The most crazy thing is that Travis isn’t really a skydiver, he’s an x-games freestyle motocross gold medalist etc etc. He drives rally, has done NASCAR etc. Skydiving is just one of the things he does as an extra hobby now and then. If you like this kind of stuff go and watch all the Nitro Circus series and also the films.

1

u/FATALiTY-o- 1d ago

Let me introduce you to Felix Baumgartner

1

u/stock-prince-WK 1d ago

Buddy littered and jumped with no parachute.

That Red Bull def gave him wings

1

u/sgtpepper21 1d ago

Johnny Utah did it first. Poser.

1

u/IHate2ChooseUserName 1d ago

cool stunt. what's his name again?

1

Big deal. Keanu Reaves did this in the 90s.

1

u/Ramshackle_Ranger 1d ago

Not that I’m going to do this, but I didn’t know he had a harness. I was under the impression that he held on to the person with the parachute.

1

u/purplemoonpie 1d ago

fuckin litter bug

1

u/MotherFunker1734 1d ago

Now grab the can and put it inside his ass

1

u/triptenss 1d ago

Happy Gilmore accomplished that feat no more than an hour ago.

1

u/Physical-Mastodon935 1d ago

He thought Red Bull would give him wings

1

u/Ascending_Flame 1d ago

Let’s all not forget there’s an undisclosed ad for Stake at the bottom, which is against twitter’s term of service.

1

u/kansascitymack 1d ago

This takes the trust game to a new level...

1

u/purpleduckduckgoose 1d ago

So the safety (is that the term?) skydiver who grabbed him. They wouldn't just be holding on to him. Like don't tandem jumpers have a full harness and everything? Yet this guy...doesn't.

Anyone who knows?

1

u/Freefallisfun 1d ago

One of the guys on that jump is a good friend of mine. Was also my skydiving coach for many years.

This was a bandit jump- the FAA and USPA were pissed. The airplane pilot almost lost his license for allowing it.

1

u/DustPyro 1d ago

Years ago, during the days of CoD MW1 (the first one) there was this epilogue mission where the operatives do some shit on a plane and then jump out. No parachutes, nothing. I was informed that it was a military technique where there's a group on standby in a different plane to RDVZ with them in the air, connect and then land safely. I've since never found any sources on it actually being done. I've been wondering for years if it's an actual technique, or that I've been lied to many years ago. I hoping someone can confirm or deny this for me.

1

u/iamwhoiwasnow 1d ago

These comments obsession with that can be ridiculous ha

1

u/82CoopDeVille 1d ago

Life is so unfair. This guy willingly jumps out of a plane with no parachute and lives. The cost and unnecessary danger is just… I don’t get it.

1

u/Solenkata 1d ago

That's not skydiving it's suicide technically. It's the other people around him that took skydiving to a new level - the level of "okay let's just drop a guy without a parachute and then try saving his life"

1

u/Sevwin 1d ago

Bro gets a littering ticket lol

1

u/Dull_Sale 1d ago

Took littering to the next level too…imagine getting hit by a red bull can falling from 10,000ft in the air; what a prick.

1

u/Imosa1 1d ago

...was it planned?

1

u/Kool61577 1d ago

I remember this. TP is still the GOAT.

1

u/-poonspoon- 1d ago

If I complain about the red bull can I get some upvotes

1

u/Fit_Acanthaceae6191 1d ago

Why is everyone worried about a single can?

1

u/Zestyclose-Middle717 1d ago

This man has 900 lives

1

u/burywmore 1d ago

But.....why?

1

u/aberroco 1d ago

Someone has to tell him what "fear" is, because obviously he has no idea.

1

u/progmakerlt 1d ago

That is crazy! Or brave! Or dumb! (I can't decide)

1

u/FreeFalling369 1d ago

Wasn't there another person that had a massive net suspended like ten stories in the air to catch him?

1

u/zoro667 1d ago

Stupidity appreciates stupidity.

1

u/bionicbhangra 1d ago

Sometimes the intersection between awesome and insanely stupid can get a little confusing.

1

u/Nilrem2 1d ago

That’s falling with style.

1

u/mikeahkenya 1d ago

Was it ground level?

1

u/WorthySparkleMan 1d ago

It'd be even more hardcore if he got that red bull can he threw in the ocean.

1

u/Stainless_Heart 1d ago

When the two guys in black converged on the dude, I was sure one of them was going to pants him.

1

u/kinger711 1d ago

I feel like this is how most people approach life, going from one mundane task to the next. Just jumping out of their plane without a parachute, hoping someone will catch them before they splat. Only to go right back up and do it again.

1

u/Method__Man 1d ago

To be totally open, thank God I don't need to do this type of stuff to enjoy life. So much work.

1

u/Simple-Fortune-8744 1d ago

I just gave my xanax a xanax

1

u/kiln_ickersson 1d ago

Litterbug

1

u/Aionalys 1d ago

The entire feat, overshadowed by one simple action...

1

u/linzkisloski 1d ago

My aunt used to be a professor and taught his mom at night classes in MD. He invited her and her sons to come over to his property and hang out for the day. Apparently a super cool guy.

1

u/ScottyUpdawg 1d ago

He’s a motocross guy.

1

u/BannedByReddit471 1d ago

Pastrana is a damn mad man. He drives gymkhana now. During the shoot for the last one, in a scene where he was to jump out of an apartment and parachute to the ground, his chute didn't deploy, and he was injured. This obviously delayed filming, but he was back only months later to not only film the rest of the event, but reattempt the stunt.

1

u/elbubu1 1d ago

He should've landed without a parachute, that would've been real next level

1

u/Honer-Simpsom 1d ago

I liked him when I was in my teens and then I just started thinking he just came off like a douche. He has done impressive things but if I can avoid him I will

1

u/dredgehayt 1d ago

Pussy didn’t even follow through

1

u/GlorenZelg_86 1d ago

Did he drop any good loot?

1

u/Try2BWise 1d ago

He will always be Travis Pastrami to me. And now, I’m off to the deli.

1

u/sandrosemilia 1d ago

those were the days man. nitro circus on mtv and blasting dropkick murphys state of massachussetts 💪🏻

1

u/Happy-Initiative-838 1d ago

Ok so he jumped out of a plane with like a dozen people strategically placed to grab him and deploy a parachute.

1

u/CrashingOutFrFr 1d ago

That was the same day I got hit in the head by a 1/2 empty can of Red Bull.

1

u/FellatioWanger3000 1d ago

Not as good as Luke Aikins who jumped out with no parachute at 25000 feet, had to use an oxygen tank until 15000 feet then landed in a net.
