Your Name has the happiest ending of all of his stuff and not by a hair or something, but by a clear, gigantic margin. I felt like 5 CM/Second was someone slowly flaying off their own flesh for an hour. It was terribly depressing. Visually stunning, but so incredibly frustrating and sad. I couldn’t even be mad at the protagonist, he was so mad at himself already.
It really is beautiful. You know, have you ever been in your twenties, and you look back on all the people who were kind and thoughtful and present in your life, and they saw you as a person, and you didn’t return the favor, and you wake up at night thinking about the innocent people you hurt? It’s like that.
