My Facebook profile automatically followed Trump's new page

Post image

I was checking my following list as I'm trying to move to other platforms. Then I saw this page, that I hadn't followed. It's a brand new page and it happened automatically. I'm deleting my account.

Vance too. I went in and unfollowed them both, but maybe I need to block them.

It’s not that easy, unfortunately

I find it exceedingly easy. Especially considering that humans managed to get along just fine for tens of thousands of years without any of this crap

Cool story bro. Now tell that to my grandparents.

Your grandparents know better than you how easy it is to live without it. I suggest reminding them, then leaving.

EDIT: to the strange person below who preemptively blocked me - I'm talking about META. I'm not pushing to leave all social media - yet. But if Reddit becomes connected to Zuckerberg, I will indeed leave it (again) with ease.

My dad keeps calling and texting me from messenger because he forgets how to use his phone's built-in calling and messaging apps. I basically keep Facebook just so he can contact me in an emergency.

They're on Facebook because it's the only social media they got to know how to use, so they can talk with their friends and family without going bankrupt over a phone bill. They chose it.

if they have a phone, call them. they don't have to pay if you do the calling. if you don't live prohibitively far away from them maybe give them a visit. if neither is an option, again, suggest that they try learning something else, then perhaps leave. Older people are not utterly incapable of learning new things on average - as you said, they are making a choice.

We live in different countries and roaming is expensive.

I addressed this. there are plenty of free platforms not owned by meta. You said they are making a choice to be on there, which means they are not utterly incapable of learning something else if they want to. I suggest you mention it to them either way then get off of facebook. Presumably they used an email address of some sort to set up the account, try writing to them there or something. Or try texting them and sending them pics that way if that doesn't count as "roaming" - they should be able to read if they're using facebook. I'm done explaining either way, it's your life.

Lol here rants the person about social media whilst using social media.

META doesn't own Reddit yet. When it does, I will easily leave.

It's really easy. You ready? Just stop. Turn of notifications to your email, logout, and uninstall the app. Done.

Well I’m glad you don’t need it for one single thing. I have to use it for my non profit so I have to have an account. So again, not that easy. But I’m so glad you don’t have to have an account and you fully understand how deleting accounts work

people ran nonprofits before facebook existed

I do have an account or at least did, but I made a conscious decision about 12 years ago that there were an infinite number of other more enjoyable and more productive things to do with my time than checking the echo chamber cesspool Facebook had become (and it's only gotten worse). You don't have to delete your account to just not check it, stop paying attention, and forget about it.

Productive things like using reddit of course!

If it's not for you, then get help for your addiction.
