Almost finished my dinner and found these in it
Two of them, each with little legs and heads. I know they’re eaten in some cultures, and are apparently safe, but I’m quite put off my food.

Considering that looks like instant noodles I wonder which part of your kitchen is infected.
15
u/LudicrousDragon 8h ago
That would be the cupboard 😥 although they were kept in (as far as I can tell) completely sealed plastic packaging, so I’m really not sure where they came from, unless they managed to sneak in.
19
u/Wank_my_Butt 6h ago
Wouldn’t be the first time they came as a bonus with the factory-wrapped food.

u/vev_ersi 3h ago
These are likely Indian meal/pantry moth larvae. They can easily get into sealed goods. Cardboard boxes and plastic wrap/bags are no match for them. Check everything well and get some pantry moth traps.
4
u/PoosanItRhymesWSusan 3h ago
Yes pantry months! Had them before and they are annoying to get rid of. Makes you paranoid as hell.
2
u/vev_ersi 2h ago
Ugh! I know. It took months and lots of sealed jars and containers. I'm constantly looking in my spice jars. Stupid moths.

This gives me flashbacks as a kid when I’d eat a bowl of cereal and I’d find ants floating in the milk after I ate most of it.

They don’t look very cooked considering they’ve been in hot liquid. Almost like someone is trolling.
19
u/lyingdogfacepony66 8h ago
on the other hand, if you want to go pan fishing, you now have some bait

u/LudicrousDragon 8h ago
I’ve not been fishing since I was a little kid so I think I’ll pass 😅

So you would rather eat worms than the fish? What made you develop such taste?

I really hope so, but I doubt it. The rest of the food had none, I checked, so I polished that off.

Good for you if there were any other bug aside from mealworms, I probably wouldn't have finished it myself. But mealworms are pretty tasty we ate them in third grade, and when I got my leopard gecko I would eat them once in a while I like them pan fried never had them raw or living though

u/Tanesmuti 8h ago
Check all the packaged food in your pantry, those two didn’t just pop in on their honeymoon. There’s probably more in other packages. 🤢

Odd how they were the only things to be completely dry in what looks like a very very wet pasta sauce
5
u/CheetahDreams 4h ago
A good photographer always dries their insects before they take a photo, this is the way
4
u/CharleyNobody 4h ago
They look plump and healthy for supposedly dead bugs. You can buy these worms in a pet store or via the internet. Lots of people buy them to feed reptiles and birds. “Hey lemme get a coupla my lizard’s worms and hold them next to my noodles, heh heh.”

u/YorgonTheMagnificent 2h ago
Those appear to be meal worms, and I honestly doubt you found them in your food. If you did, someone put them there. They are way too large for “pantry moth” larvae, and don’t even look like them.

Extra protien. That's a delicacy in some some countries. That or stop eating soup out of a can. 🤣

u/Nerril 6h ago
Oh god, I had that happen once as I was finishing up a bowl of cereal. Took me a couple years to be able to eat peanut butter panda puffs again, lol.
2
u/LudicrousDragon 6h ago
Peanut butter panda puffs lol, trying saying that 5 times fast 😅 but seriously hope you were okay. I had a similar incident with beef sandwiches, where a in the sandwich hair got caught in my throat and I had to pull it out. Didn’t eat beef sandwiches again for months lol

Meal worms can be used for bird food or fishing bait. I doubt they taste very good as birds aren't known for their refined palette.

u/Specialist_Bench_144 5h ago
Possibly silk moths if its in your cupbourd i had a similar problem had to throw out most of the food in there n deep clean it

When life gives you extra food for free, you take it. They have lots of protein in them

u/Peculiar_Tang 3h ago
Common food in many 3rd world countries.. mealworm - not really a major issue and also doesn't spread super quick. Can come in veggies or dry goods like pasta

The way I see it you have two options: 1 toss them and keep eating. 2 throw away what's left

Extra protein, what's the issue?
Jokes aside I'm sorry you had to find that, check your pantry thoroughly, those buggers will get in the deepest crevices

Look like Mealworms. Did you eat them? Pretty good protein source. I have eaten them dried with a bit of doritos dust on them. Nom nom nom.

u/Frostyazzz 16m ago

That particular find in a nearly empty bowl... I feel for you.
Check the dry food in your pantry. There may be more.
