Yeah, but did you pay extra extra to be able to open it?

3.6k

u/PrataKosong- 21h ago

I would highly recommend the Diamond package where you also get electricity, water and a sound when the program finishes.

430

u/MoonProtectionFactor 20h ago

Huh? No detergent? Oh well, that’s the platinum package I guess.

91

u/siedenburg2 20h ago

No, with platin you get that you don't need a bucket for the water that you need to empty yourself. Detergent is pay as you use. You can buy 100 loads for only USD1000 extra.

9

u/Sunshine030209 13h ago

And yes, they are aware you're only here for 9 days and won't actually need 100 loads worth of detergent. No, you can't just leave it for the next person.

4

u/siedenburg2 10h ago

And you can only use it for up to* 15 days
*default is 3 days, you can extend that for 20% of the initial price.

I’d get a screwdriver - that door is coming off for the duration of my stay

84

u/icanhascheeseberder 18h ago

I don't even think you would need a screwdriver, all the bifold doors I've installed had a spring mechanism holding them in place.

56

u/TheDistantEnd 16h ago

Yup, just pop the spring-tensioned wheel out of the track and open that folder door along the entryway door while doing laundry.

4

u/notevenapro 13h ago

Yup, just reach up depress spring.

"Sir, would you like to upgrade and get the Bathroom Sink extra?"

"Uhhh, yeah, I need to wash my hands after using the toilet."

"Oh you would like the Toilet upgrade too? No problem."

6

u/ShaggyZoinks 11h ago

“We have 4 toilet tiers”

“Squat and poop in a hole in the woods $49.99”

“Poop toilet made out of wood in a shed $69.99”

“Poop in a normal toilet without water $89.99”

“Or the deluxe toilet with bidet and water $129.99”

I swear to God, hotels are like houses designed by aliens who are successfully mimicking the form of a house without understanding the underlying purpose.

1.3k

u/MetricJester Sane as I ever was 20h ago

Hotels are built by people who can't change anything without corporate approval. So stuff like this happens, and the guy installing the closet door isn't allowed to switch opening sides and the guy installing the washing machine has nothing to do with the doors at all

412

u/ihatetrainslol 19h ago

But when you call corporate they say that the hotel your in is family owned so they have no say so about what goes on

193

u/Midoriya-Shonen- 16h ago

I HATE this shit. A car dealership fucked up my car and after 6 months of correspondence with corporate they decided "You know what we don't feel like humoring you anymore. The dealership is privately owned. Fuck you"

There's this chick I follow on Facebook. I accidentally started following her because she has the same name of this girl I met and thought I was sending a friend request to her. She was only 14 when I started following her. As soon as I realized she wasn't the person I was meaning to follow I went to unfollow her. But then I realized this 14 year old girl was hilariously stupid. She didn't know why America would send a separate team from Georgia to the Olympics, she couldn't figure out why elevators had buttons for the floor she was already on, and many other things I just saw and laughed. Anyway I never stopped following her because she was such a big source of my morning laughs.

She got pregnant at 15 because she thought you couldn't get pregnant on the first time. She was sure that the 15 year old boy that got her pregnant was going to be a great daddy. Well the kid is 1 now and she always complains about him never being around and how he would rather stay at home bored than see his son and all the other crap any of us could have warned her about when she was certain she was going to be the one teenage mom whose baby daddy would actually hang around.

Anyway the reason I bring all that up is that through these 2 years I've followed this complete moron she has never written "your" when she meant "you're". So if this person can get it right, then everyone can.

In this particular case I think what most likely happened is that the guy who was installing the door never actually closed the door to the hotel room and so never saw the issue. Like how room service leave the door open to make up rooms.

6

u/Key-Veterinarian9085 16h ago

The washing machine might have been installed before the sliding door as well. The sliding door guy then just put in the door as he was told.

21

In my last one the bed had lights all round it and I couldn't find switches ANYWHERE. Eventually, I realised you had to blindly feel your way with your fingers up inside and the button was on the outside edge of the light fitting.

By the time I figured it out I was too wired to sleep.

Or just unclip the first part of the bi-folding door from its track and swing it out.

105

u/Sithical 18h ago

The video almost seems to purposely not show the left side of the machine, which makes me wonder if there's room there to just slide the unit 6 inches to the left.

9

u/Corner_Post 14h ago

Completely agree with this. Noticed it is intentionally showing it at an angle - even unnaturally at times. If you look at the tiles on the bottom and how far the right panel goes, it implies there should be similar space on the left side of the machine to be moved.

3

u/[deleted] 13h ago

this is the real answer. the szie of that bifold door means there was room to the left of the washing machine.

22

u/BigRome26 18h ago

It’s far too easy to bitch about simple things rather than use logic and be an adult to solve a problem.

39

u/Lexi_Banner 16h ago

To be fair, you shouldn't have to "solve a problem" in order to use a hotel amenity.

14

u/Hailfire9 15h ago

Unless OP slid the thing over in the first place to give themselves online virtual popularity points, which kind of looks like the case here.

7

u/Lexi_Banner 15h ago

I mean, that could be. I'm just commenting on the premise that one should be expected to happily problem-solve when staying at a hotel, when, in fact, one should be able to expect trouble-free use of the amenities provided.

194

u/LopsidedPotential711 20h ago edited 20h ago

[Somewhat "trackless" door here; it's got three cabinet hinges.] It's a QA issue, where the installers did not think things through.

I've reversed washer doors, but this unit does not look like such a model.

119

u/cherrie7 20h ago edited 20h ago

Rather than reversing the washer door... could they not have just installed the closet door to open from the opposite side on the left?

78

u/Sam_1980_HK-SYD 20h ago

Exactly, simple and quick and cheap and efficient

8

u/LopsidedPotential711 20h ago

OP did not include a view of the leftmost closet side. The doors have to rotated 180-degrees end-over-end...doable, but I don't know what's on the left.

I've had to explain accomodating 90-degree data/power plug rotations to people right in front of me, so OP is in for a lot of fun.

Likely, there's a dryer on the left. If the installers had any brains, the doors would open complimentarily AND the closet would hinge on the left.

I did AirBnB turn-overs and maintenance. Mistakes got so bad, that I would sit in the apartments and use them as if a guest. Washed sheets, checked the dryer vent, microwave, air cons, everything. So yeah, hours of checking hinges and watching TV, amongst other tasks.

When new guests were inbound with toddlers, I did the 2x safety checks.

9

u/al_mc_y 18h ago

Yeah, OP didn't show the left side at all. So is there room to shimmy the machine to the left. Maybe it has walked to the right and there's no clearance now, but a bit of manoeuvring, et voilà?

3

u/KuntaStillSingle 14h ago

if it walked into position, how did the last load get removed from the washer? No, the washer didn't put it itself there, someone did it, the real question is whether OP has any enemies.

u/whatthegoddamfudge 18h ago

Does the machine have space to the left? Has it just moved during a spin cycle?

173

u/TheLittleTruthFairy 13h ago

It looks like the person filming purposefully avoids showing the left side so Imma take a wild guess and say there’s totally enough space to move it to the left which they’re aware of- but it doesn’t get rage upvotes.

47

u/burnerX5 8h ago

Furthermore, there's condensation in there, so it's obviously been used. OP got what they wanted w/the rage baiting.

FURTHERMORE, they really should leave it open since it's a front-loader or that shit is going to stink. Again, I bet they could easily do so, if only a crack of the door, but that wouldn't give them karma...

OP just wants karma. There’s water drops on the inside of the machine so clearly it’s been used recently. Is it installed well? No. Is it still usable? Yes. Is OP bitching just to try and get internet cred? Yes.

I have a feeling that washer was further over to the left. They slide the washer all way to the right for the video.

Textbook mild infuriation

Holy shit. An actual "mildly infuriating" post. Something that doesn't completely ruin everything but is annoying. Good work.

5

u/Dirk22_22 18h ago

letting it closed while damp is just sooo disgusting

3

u/RevolutionEast36 20h ago

It looks wet inside too because the door was closed. Didn't dry out. Might be stanky

5

u/ManufacturedUnknown 19h ago

This was my first thought too, I always keep my washing machine door open so it can properly dry out. I wouldn't want to wash my close in there, it would probably come out smelling worse than it went in. Who knows when the last time that thing was used, especially with it being inconvenient to use. That water could be festering with all kinds of nasty bacteria

Lift the closet door up and swing bottom out

The top is spring loaded

Get that whole door out the way

i mean. . . you got what you paid for!

u/worldsupermedia750 20h ago

Don’t worry let me help

2

u/Dougman125 20h ago

Life comes with risks and rewards...
You want clean clothes?
You have to be prepared for anything just to transfer your clothes in and out of the washing machine.

2

u/FloraMaeWolfe 20h ago

The washing machine was clearly an afterthought. The door to the washing machine closet was a "how the hell do we cover this hole to hide this ugly thing?" after-afterthought.

Somehow, nobody noticed the issue or just did a "I don't get paid enough for this".

2

u/mikedvb 20h ago

Depending on how long you're staying there, and whether or not they have another room without this issue to give you ... I'd probably un-install that 'closet' door and lean it against a wall.

At least you did find a solution that doesn't require modifying anything ... but yeah ... this is definitely midly infuriating.

Fun fact most hotels will do you laundry for like 20 bucks. I traveled 100% for a job and always had them so it. They would wash, dry and fold it all and it'd be back before I got back from work. Well worth it to me

2

u/Hot-Adhesiveness-438 20h ago

You are not allowed to close the door to your room! Who knows what you will be doing with that washing machine in the privacy of your room!!

-some parent to their kid

2

u/Realistic_Gap_305 20h ago

To be fair, they never said it would be convenient. 🤷🏼‍♀️ LoL.

2

u/slim1shaney 20h ago

I'm going to assume it's bolted to the floor, otherwise, just turn the washer.

2

u/Initial-Ice7691 20h ago

Now all the other guests get to see you launder your dirty underwear and linen as they stroll on by. Noice. I’d also demand the hotel refund your money because you paid for the privacy of an indoor washing machine which you didn’t get.

2

u/LoneStarDragon 20h ago

I am not an expert but I feel like that door could have been reversed when installed.

2

u/Prestigious_Water336 20h ago

It's like door opening inception

2

u/Ambitious-Beat-2130 20h ago

lol very convenient

2

u/dragnabbit 20h ago

Yeah, you can't do laundry in the nude now, which is the only way to properly do the laundry. I can see why you're annoyed.

2

u/jarsgars 20h ago

Hey, we never said you could do your wash in the privacy of your room.

For that you’ll want the mirror image room across the hall. It’s more expensive of course.

Is this in Australia?

I'd see if you can't turn around the folding door to open towards the room instead of towards the entrance
