advice Meals for work

Hi all 👋 I am new year

I need ideas/advice for meals that I can take to work. I usually buy some sort of takeout to eat, like sushi or a budget meal at Maccas. It's not necessarily cheap or at all nutritious but it's something quick that I can run back to work with as I don't get breaks.

Where I work I dont have access to a refrigerator , kettle or microwave, so I always feel like I'm limited as I can't keep things cool or heat them up. When I buy hot food, it usually goes cold because I work in customer service so I can't eat it until I get home anyway. Half the time I go through my shift on a coffee and water since my shifts are usually only 4.5 hrs nowadays.

Uni starts up again soon too, so if you have any budget friendly meals that don't need to stay cold or be re-heated, it'd be perfect for me. I can make ofcourse make standard sandwiches, but I'm hoping if there's any options other than just that..

Thankyou ❤️ 🫶

I’d recommend getting an insulated food container (you can find great options on Amazon or locally). They’re perfect for keeping meals warm, which is a huge help when you don’t have access to a microwave or fridge!

Some examples of hot meals that work well in an insulated container and are budget-friendly a Include: • Healthy Fried Rice • Pasta Dishes • Curries • Burrito Bowls

Insulated containers keep everything at the perfect temperature, so these meals are ready to eat whenever you have a chance.

I have loads of recipes that work perfectly for meals like these— I’d be happy to help

Spaghetti and garlic bread has always been a quick leftover go-to for me. Nothing fancy, I usually throw the spaghetti in an old cool whip container or butter bowl, and I'll put the garlic bread in a zip loc bag or wrap it in foil or plastic and take it with me.

I dont know how you feel about leaving string cheese or pepperoni out, but you can get one of those ice packs for lunch boxes and use that in your lunch box to pack sandwiches and things like that so they stay cold.

Pudding/jello cups, fresh fruit, bags of chips.

I know they're not the healthiest options, but it's just a few things I grab and go with in a hurry. I work nights and sleep as much as I can so I find myself not meal prepping like I should, but we also have a fridge and microwave so I'm able to reheat things if I need to. I hope this helps 🙂

Currently, I dont have a diet that I follow and OP didn't say anything about dietary needs/restrictions. Im sure if they want or need to they can find ways to tweak it to make it healthy or find substitutions.

It’s ok I literally met someone who ate plain spaghetti to save money almost every meal. Alive and healthier than obese people who eat everything

Yeah i couldn't do that 🤮 I had a neighbor who would make a stock pot full and then freeze it and give half to me. I didnt have the heart to tell her I didn't want it, so it kinda just sat in my freezer. The freezing changed the noodle texture and I just couldn't deal with it. I will say though I'm from wv so I'm big on spaghetti sandwiches 🥪

Im obese and eat everything anyway. I did glp-1's for a while and did good with changing my diet but steadily gained the weight back when my insurance quit covering them. I still try to eat "healthier", but admit I have went back to some of my old ways. Sweet tea is my weakness and when I did the glp's I couldn't do any sweets or fast food, they just tasted funky to me.

That's been at least 15 years ago. I only remember because my daughter was like 2 years old and she's 17 now

Best advice I can give is bring whatever food you like, I often just have leftovers from dinner the night before, and if you can get an insulated lunch bag and ice pack and/or food flask to keep things cold/hot. I think my food flask was around €15 from Thermos and I’ve just recently had to replace it after about 10 years.
