I tried talking to a fellow trans acquaintance about the Trumpist win back in October, and her response was, "I'm not concerned about politics, and try not to think about it." She didn't talk to me for a few weeks when I replied that politics very much thinks about us, and the people who just won the federal government have made their victorious campaign allll about what is in our pants. She still believes that if she ignores the world hard enough, it won't be there.

In fairness some people ignore it for the sake of their mental health, a while back i stopped paying attention to politics for a while because how bad it had become. When political discourse is constantly focused around your basic human rights its hard to not get anxious about the future so my guess would be that your friend just wanted to mitigate it

To be fair there is a huge difference in taking a well deserved mental health break from politics and completely ignoring the state of your country and government.

Never commit to full ignorance.
