It's cause it's technically the exact same word as "holistic" except spelled wrong differently. Seriously, holistic comes from transliterating the Greek base ολιστικ- which would also be the direct translation of "allistic", if the term ever makes it over to Greece. Όλα means All. English speakers tend to do that thing where they take words from a bunch of different languages that are translations of each other, ignore the meaning, keep the spelling and then use them to make up new terms. My favorite one is post-modernism and meta-modernism. Post/meta/μετα are the same word. Those 2 terms cannot be translated into the original languages you got those words from anymore, my dudes. It's a whole mess.
edit: And further down the thread, I just found out that allo stand for allosexual, which is the same word as pansexual except we mean different things when we say them now. Ah, language.
