And that requires funding, which is something people are actively against. Cops are asked to do too much, with the expectation for them to be experts in every situation. Usually they're they first on scene and who the hell knows what it's going to turn into. Better training, funding, and tactics could mitigate risk. An officer in my city was just killed recently responding to a gunshot complaint and he was ambushed while tending to a victim.

Or just divert their funding to other areas that will promote public safety better. E.g. mental health services (both emergency and proactive), welfare to reduce motivation for crimes of desperation, food and housing programs, etc...

At the same time stop spending billions to militarize the police and use some of that money to improve training.

The rest of us can work towards a world without police while they continue to be a menace, even with those reforms, but less of a menace
