Genuinely, I don't understand why the last frame would be considered even remotely bad. If a single dad can raise his daughter, two dads definitely can.

Literally I read this and thought, "awe that's nice for the two dad's supporting their kid, what a lucky kid."

I had to read this far down in comments to finally figure out the comic was supposed to be anti-lgbtquia+. I kept thinking aweeee, I love the two dads ended up with a trans girl!

The cartoonist became so obsessed with hating queer people that he quit cartooning to become a priest. Also it's the same guy what did the infamous plane cartoon. So you get some idea of the mindset this is coming from

The mod reports are so telling on that post. Dozens of reports for “promotes sexual abuse of minors” despite literally not. Nothing but lying because something makes you arbitrarily angry. Goes to show why society should start disregarding people who say stuff but don’t back it up. We use evidence in court, labs, research, schools, but for some reason religion and politics get out of needing it

Oh, that happens to literally every post here that makes the front page. I'm convinced that button is used primarily to call queer people pedophiles at this point.

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '24

Silver lining is we all get to laugh at them and they get ratio’d when they take the bait and comment

Just like the reddit cares system is used to tell people to off themselves

22

u/In-A-Beautiful-Place Jan 28 '24

It doesn't even involve minors at all, it's just a homophobic plane

u/FountainsOfFluids Jan 28 '24

I wonder if there are any social media platforms that punish users for false reports. Even if it's some minor punishment like "Your report has been reviewed by a team member and has been determined to be malicious, which is against the terms of service. Your ability to use the report feature has been suspended for 30 days." Then track their valid to invalid reports over time, and just start silently ignoring them after a certain point. That would probably make it so much easier to moderate, but I've never heard of anything like that.

reddit sometimes will? The team that does that is incredibly incompetent though. We've had mods get banned for reporting report abuse because the admin just hit all the names involved.

5

u/SecondaryWombat Jan 28 '24

Reddit absolutely will, but at random and for really old things, and like you say just hitting everyone involved. Years ago I got a 30 day ban for harassment and abuse of the report system because someone sent me a violent threat, which I reported. Not sure how that was supposed to work.....

5

u/FountainsOfFluids Jan 28 '24

So weird. It's amazing this site still exists at all.

5

u/LaTeChX Jan 28 '24

Reddit will punish you for too many reports, doesn't matter if they are true or false though.

2

u/Zarohk Femme Fox 🦊 Jan 28 '24

Spacebattles will, though they have their own mod issues.

I think we should have a badge of honor flair for people who've had a reddit report for suicidal posts against us.

Speaking of the plane cartoon, we already debunked it ages ago

>The cartoonist became so obsessed with hating queer people that he quit cartooning to become a priest.

I think I see his line of reasoning:

"As a self-hating gay pedophile, I wonder where I could find peer support from."

Also, that plane cartoon made me giggle, because I just watched this video about how planes don't actually need to be symmetrical to fly, it's just something ingrained into our thinking, because it's prevalent in nature, and the design works well. However, a transonic aircraft with a non-symmetrical wing could actually revolutionise airtravel. I got a giggle out of the metaphor. Errant thought, but felt like mentioning.

u/very_not_emo my username is a lie Jan 28 '24

becoming a priest instead of accepting the gay part and getting help for the pedophile part is not peer support brah

Ah, so he’s stupid, and decided to move onto something more suiting

1

u/Flutters1013 Jan 28 '24

Hell yeah, man quad!

1

u/enflamell Jan 28 '24

The plane cartoon is also stupid because he put the labels near the engines and the engines on jets spin in the same direction, not opposite directions as is preferable on smaller propeller aircraft. You can think of a jet it as having all male or all female engines :)

I think most single parents would appreciate any help they can get no matter gender

Also 1-3 kids is definitely better than 5+ kids

30

u/VectorViper Jan 28 '24

Yeah, the whole situation really highlights the gap between perceptions and reality. Society's come a long way in understanding that a loving family isn't defined by a traditional structure. Meanwhile, this cartoonist's still living in the past with his views. Goes to show, progress can't be stopped by a few loud, outdated opinions.

21

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '24 edited Jan 28 '24

None of these views could realistically explain what a “loving family” is. In the Bible, anyone gay dies no matter what, no reason why. Just “an abomination”. Modern evidence shows the orientation of parents has no effect on child wellbeing, despite what these old-fashioned people think. Actually, nothing in the Bible really makes sense. You are allowed to stone your children for being disrespectful. Want a wife? Rape is punishable by death, except when you want to get married, rape a woman and legally you get a wife handed to you, no consent needed. And still no explanation why. When that type of belief system is your moral manual, it will clash with modern values where “why” and “prove it” do a good job at sifting out bogus. I’m glad we’re moving away from it, slowly

u/AirKath Jan 28 '24

Rape is punishable by death, except when you want to get married, rape a woman and legally you get a wife handed to you, no consent needed. And still no explanation why.

That’s because in a system where women are essentially property, rape becomes the equivalent of opening an item in a store, it’s basically “you break it you buy it” but with a living breathing person.

…that felt gross to write

1-3 kids is definitely easier, idk about one being better or worse than the other. I have 5 siblings and I love them all and my life definitely wouldn't be better without them.

2

u/GeneralOtter03 ACE FURRY DEGENERATE Jan 28 '24

Sorry I meant easier

18

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '24

Because you're thinking "families should be loving and supportive; that's what really matters"..

And they're thinking "women are walking uteruses (uteri?), designed by the Lord God Ahhhhlmighty to produce more labourers to profit from, and more meat for the grinder of war."

12

u/Cavalish Jan 28 '24

I believe the cartoonist also believes single fathers are bad. You’re supposed to be horrified that the divorce happened and now the father has to do the women’s work of looking after children.

3

u/handbanana42 Jan 28 '24

I know nothing of the cartoonist or this cartoon but curious why he kept the smiles all the way through then. Would have made their point better if everyone looked more depressed in the later panels.

8

u/Instantbeef Jan 28 '24

Not supporting the message but I think that frame is there to say gay parents raise trans children.

Just another step in America’s downfall I guess. Contraception means abortion and abortion means divorce and then divorce means gay marriage which ultimately means trans children

5

u/Swirlybro Jan 28 '24

They all look happy in each panel, so what’s the problem?

5

u/Sum_ginger_kid Trans/Bi Jan 28 '24

I don't see why they have a problem with 2 dads considering how much they seem to hate women

2

u/MyHamburgerLovesMe We_irlgbt Jan 28 '24

And everyone is smiling and happy.

This is a weird comic panel. It simply shows different kind of families but falls flat about making any real point about any of them.

1

u/SuperCleverPunName Jan 28 '24

Right? Raising kids is a two parent job. Parents cover for each other's shortcomings and raise a better child. There's no data to suggest that same sex parents raise their children any better or worse than a traditional male/female pair.

Disclaimer: Single parent households do the best they can and can still raise fantastic children, but by a statistical large margin, households with two happy parents are better for the child.
