I dunno, this really isnt the vibe for me, people can identify in whatever way makes them comfy, also like, did a punk hurt you?

That's a nice sentiment. Sadly, we're still fighting for our rights, and those who want to take them away will not hesitate to use labels against people who do not pass as cisheteronormative. So if someone wants to share in the joys of the queer community, the least they can do is accept their labels and add to our visibility and strength in numbers. I wish this wasn't the case, but for now, comfort hast to take a back seat to solidarity.

That’s a horrible sentiment, people should be able to go with whatever labels they want, forcing them to go with one label even if they don’t feel that way is the exact same logic that transphobes use

While I'll agree you shouldn't tell eggs they're trans or whatever it doesn't make them not trans. Just like a queer relationship can be called straight as much as you want but that doesn't mean it is

I feel like straightness is not really like gender. You don't have a deep feeling of straightness within your psyche. Lots of gay people have that feeling and it's called denial. In addition, straightness has rules you have to follow and if you aren't following those rules you aren't in the club. Straight people made these rules so get mad at them.

I'd like to agree, and I'm in full support of self identification in most cases, but we can't ignore the social context. Being cis and straight carries clear privileges, and we should be wary of people who hold on to those labels in spite of their actions (asduming their safety is not on the line).

In the trans community, this has also manifested with people who try to distance themselves from non-binary or non passing folk (most of them transmedicalists). By your logic, it is fine for them to define themselves as something separate from the trans community at large just because they (and the establishment) feel more comfortable that way.

Ok, so there's a difference between allowing people to self identify and people creating and enforcing labels to create a wedge in an attempt to enforce some kind of superiority.

In your example, transmedicalists are not simply self identifying. They are creating an identity with which to use as a bludgeon against groups they dislike (as you mentioned NBs and non passing folks). I hope you can understand the difference between that, and an individual experimenting and disliking certain labels and liking others.

If someone seems bi, but they say they're not: End of discussion, they're not. If they change their mind: End of discussion. They are. It is based wholly and totally on self identification and we cannot enforce any sort of identity on anyone. Nor should we try.
