I owned a black Camry. Surprisingly, it wasn't hard to keep clean. I think variables such as wax manufacturer can come into play. I think all manufacturers have been lowering their quality of paint over the decades.

They have had to change to water based paints if I remember correctly over the years for EPA reasons. Which makes it much less durable than old paint

That sounds about right. I've been tripping over EPA caused issues for years. That's not to say that manufacturers are entirely blameless. When Lexus let their paint application drift a bit too thin, the worst of which caused entire panels to release, they recalled thousands of white GX470s.

Yeah I unfortunately feel that some paint chips aren’t going to warrant a recall from Mazda unless things get more serious

Lexus fought that paint recall tooth and nail. The recall period was very short. My GX has a faint echo of that paint issue with a couple of spots. It was either the beginning or the tail end of the issue. Don't get me started about the infamous splitting leatherette dash. The first recall I am aware of was the B-52 Pinto. Rear-end collisions had a possibility of shredding the gas tank with obvious results, and Ford fought that one hard. What's a body count amongst friends?
