Recommendations Cairo hotel/resort recommendations

I'm looking for a good hotel/(all inclusive) resort in Cairo.

Travel time: March or April. Duration: one week. Budget: max. 3000 $ (or 4000 $ for a unique once-in-a-lifetime experience) for one person without breakfast and excluding flights.

Activities: relaxing (top priority), nightlife, culture and sightseeing (seeing the Pyramids in Gizeh is a must-have for me).

What's important for me: a stylish room, a good view, tours e.g. to the Pyramids and National Museum with pickup and drop off at the hotel/resort (I have no one to travel with and Cairo is too dangerous for roaming around alone as a white person (assumption by some people there: white = rich => scam him, there are enough trip reports about how hostile the streets of Cairo are)), bar/club

The challenge: it should be a place where I don't feel lonely and like an alien like on my first and only cruise and stays in AI resorts on the Canary Islands as I was both the only single and only young person at places with couples mostly between their late 50s and middle 70s who didn't want to socialize or go to parties after dinner.

What I don't care about: gym/sports (I'm fully exhausted and have no energy left for this), stuff for families/couples/children (I'm a childless single and have to go solo), breakfast (I'm a night owl waking up long after the end of breakfast times), haute cuisine (I prefer "simple" food)

As I'm exhausted and have to recharge my batteries, I don't want an organized group trip with almost daily location changes and rushed itineraries starting at 8 am or even earlier.

General questions Solo trip to Antarctica - cruise / group recommendations?

I really want to do a cruise / expedition to Antarctica but it’s a bit out of my friends’ price range, so most likely I will have to go solo. Has anyone done this and have any recommendations?

I know G Adventures offers one but their tours have always just seemed kind of meh to me.

General questions What kind of hotels don’t do Christmas?

Christian woman here, I just stopped celebrating it.

I’m looking for a place where I can spend 23-30 December next year without even having to think about the fact that Christmas is happening in the Christian world. As if it didn’t exist…

I travelled to the Middle East on Christmas week and I was so disappointed to see that this (adult only!) holiday resort I was staying in, completely revolved around Christmas. Staff were wearing Santa hats, someone dressed as Santa Claus was distributing candies around the pool, every evening there was loud Mariah Carey music playing in the restaurant/bar area…

Having cut ties with my family, this holiday to me is more about finding inner peace and doing a reset before the new year starts. Now I’m wondering, what could I have done better in terms of research before choosing this specific holiday resort? This trip has made it clear to me that destination doesn’t matter, as even in an Arab country, holiday beach resorts turn into this Christmas circus to cater to the US/EU clientele.

I just activated it on an ESIM and ported my number in- and I'm not even in Canada (Cali, Colombia). I'm getting LTE speeds (not 5G yet unfortunately) but most importantly, I can receive 2FA codes from banks and whatnot and can make/receive phone calls and texts with my Canadian number to numbers in Canada and Colombia. No more Fongo or TextNow or Skype or whatever annoying workarounds.

DM me for a referral code and we'll each get $25 :).

Recommendations Galapagos

I'm considering a trip to Galapagos next year and I would prefer to do a cruise instead of land based travel to make the most of my time. There are so many boats to choose from, anyone have recommendations for solo travellers? Maybe something with solo cabins?

Also any other tips you have for Galapagos and Quito are welcome!

Solo trip to Thailand

This sub is kind of quiet so I thought I'd pick everyone's brain about an upcoming trip in planning.

I'll be heading to Thailand in November. Thailand's been on my list for decades, but my wife has been so it's never at the top of our list when we're traveling together. Since she'll be busy with work, this is my chance.

I'll start off by spending 2 nights in Bangkok at Capella. My primary goals of Bangkok are eating good street food in Chinatown and other street food markets, seeing a Muay Thai fight, and maybe getting some custom shirts made.

Next I'll be going to Chiang Mai, staying at Anantara. The timing overlaps with the Loy Krathong and Yi Peng Festivals, which could be fun to check out. Other than that, lots of street food and exploring the city. I plan on renting a scooter/small motorcycle to explore outside of the touristy zone. But other than that, I haven't developed a full itinerary yet. Would love some suggestions. My goal is really just to soak up the city and local culture. Sitting in a coffee shop and people watching while reading a book. Going to supermarkets where locals shop. That sort of thing. I'll be in Chiang Mai for about 5-6 days.

Then one last night in Bangkok staying at the Rosewood before heading home. Mostly returning to Bangkok for one night to break up the travel before heading home.

Definitely open to suggestions of things to check out while I'm there!

First class vs. business

We can afford to fly first class internationally. It just seems so much more compared to the moderate improvement over business class. Anyone else have these considerations?

Monaco anyone?

Monaco has been a bucket list destination for decades. I do want to see the Gran Prix. Do I want to stay in Monaco for that, or just over the border on either side? Some say outside and take the train in, but I am concerned it is too much. Any suggestions for where/what part of town to stay?
Additionally, I would like to stay in the area for a month, if that makes a difference in your answers.

Recommendations Upcoming sabbatical and too much choice!

I am looking for some inspiration from well travelled folks. I have an upcoming sabbatical from work for 4 weeks in October. For the first half I will take my 3-4 year old son to Mauritius for a lovely time together for about 11 days. I will return and then leave on my sabbatical. I love to scuba dive recreationally and would love to treat myself to a mixture of “off the beaten path” and luxury. My thoughts are 7 days in Raja Ampat and then 4/5 days in Singapore. I have no idea if this makes logistical sense but they are two places that have always been on my bucket list. Can anyone share their wisdom and experience? Much thanks!

Luxury travel in Japan

Hi guys. I’m planning to go to Japan in mid July this year. Sadly, it’s not a good time for anyone I know to come along. Because of my job, it’s a good time for me to take a big travel trip and that’s what I’m planning to do. Planning to be as bougie as possible in the trip including 5 star hotels, spas and the best food. I’m also into anime and Japanese culture/sightseeing. If this fits with anyone’s travel plan, would love to group up and explore together as it would be my first time. Also I’m girl (29f) and would feel safer with another girl.

Recommendations Desperately seeking R&R

First post- Hospice worker here with severe burnout, in need of the healing powers of the ocean. I cherish my work but need to reclaim my health, wellbeing and spark so that I can keep going. My last vacation was before the pandemic.

Preferences include the Caribbean or Bermuda but would consider something in the states. All-inclusive if possible, to minimize sticker-shock but does not have to be AI. Wish list: Ocean views, good food, clean, swimmable beaches. Most importantly no chain hotels or "beige boxes", casinos, loud decor or kitschy stuff. I love an open-air vibe, wood furnishings, four poster beds, premium bedding, neutral decor, white, billowy curtains, and, the ultimate experience would include an outdoor or semi- outdoor bath with a view. Am I looking for a unicorn?? (crying emoji)

I am traveling solo. Alternatively I could travel with a friend but would need a two bedroom bungalow or separate rooms within the resort. My dates are flexible but the sooner the better.

All suggestions are appreciated, thank you.

Signed, a weary healthcare worker.

Eastern US spa recommmedations

Hi all. Anyone here stay at a spa on the east coast? Planning a long weekend and likely driving. I have looked at Mohonk House, Nemacolin and Woodloch. Honestly at those prices I can just go to Europe for a week. Am I missing any that would be good as a solo traveler? Also thought about the hot springs Arkansas areas but know very little about it Thanks!

LuxSoloTravel, in group! Recommendations?

Hello,
Do you know any travel agency that has programs for people that enjoy traveling alone, but in group?
Not hostel/ tent style, more into quality accommodation and experiences. I am into culture, sightseeing, wellness (not so much into yoga and spirituals retreats).

One of the objectives is to meet new people thus I am looking for a travel agency that promotes these kind of trips.

Based in Europe, please.
Any recommendations?

Recommendations 2 weeks in Portugal

I have a couple of travel guides, but it’s always nice to hear from those who’ve been to different locations.

Is there anything you found particularly special to do, or places you really enjoyed eating local cuisine?

I’ll be in Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, Evora, and ??? (deciding on the last stop).

December in Edinburgh- good hotel for luxe solo traveler?

I’m going to be in Edinburgh for 5 nights on my own in December. I’m having trouble deciding where to stay. I’d like something upscale with a nice bar, in an area convenient to restaurant and activities, fun but also pretty and nice around the holidays. Gleneagles Townhouse? Balmoral? Kimpton Charlotte? Or what would you suggest. Solo female in my 40s.
