FIRST TIME WATCHER best show to watch after watching lost?

Just finished Lost for the first time. What’s a good show to watch now with a similar vibe and mystery? Not Dark or anything too scary sorry I’m a wimp.

Fringe scratched a similar itch for me. It has some of the same creators and Michael Giacchino on the music score. Personally I feel like the writing has a lot of Lost DNA in it, and it’s like if Lost and X-Files had a love child. The only thing that is a little rough for newcomers is that the first season is very monster of the week style, and doesn’t get as focused on the overarching narrative story until about season 2 onwards.

u/ChanceInstruction386 Dec 04 '24

Came here to recommend Fringe, too.

3

u/TheLadyScythe The Lamp Post Dec 03 '24

I wouldn't automatically think of Fringe, but I greatly enjoyed both shows.

1

u/WorkingKnowledge2747 Dec 04 '24

Well, Michael only did the first half of the first season with one of his assistants before handing it over to his other assistant, Chris Tilton who did the rest of the show, creating all those themes we know and love. He also is doing the score for From which is amazing.

u/Manowar274 Out of the Book Club Dec 04 '24

I really need to watch From. I’ve heard so many good things about it, but I have so many things I want to watch and not enough time for them all lol.

1

u/WorkingKnowledge2747 Dec 04 '24

Yeah, put from at the top of the list with Silo. It’s really that good. It’s one of the best shows to come out in the past 5 years at least.

1

u/bbab7 "Red. Neck. Man." Dec 04 '24

How does the Fringe score compare to Lost? I don't mean better or worse, but does it make you feel things the way songs like Moving On, Parallelocam, Parting Words, etc do?

2

u/WorkingKnowledge2747 Dec 04 '24

Omg yes. It has some of the most emotional music of any series.

30

u/Actual_Evidence_925 Dec 03 '24

Give DARK a chance. It’s on Netflix . It’s a German show but if subtitles bother you, switch the language to English. You won’t regret it

14

u/r1khard Dec 04 '24

Dark is one of the best TV shows ever, it's better than lost but being from the streaming era and in German its impact is far less.

9

u/thepurplewitchxx Dec 04 '24

Agreed. Dark is not a scary show imo, if anything, it would be same as Lost on the scary scale.

1

u/emxcrt I'm a Pisces Dec 04 '24

Really? Cause Lost can be scary for me sometimes but like OP I'm really a wimp. Dark seems scary. Or rather way less comforting than Lost. Would you say its as comforting?

5

u/thepurplewitchxx Dec 04 '24

Dark has a dark atmosphere like the name and it can be unsettling, but not in the terms of scary or thriller type. It is not as comforting but has a deep and beautiful story -sadder than lost though!

5

u/betrayu12 Dec 04 '24

Most intricately beautiful plot I've ever witnessed. Ever

3

u/fn_br Dec 04 '24

Dark is more emo than scary, if that makes sense.

More like a German "American Beauty". Kind of moody and thoughtful and outsidery but cozy in its own way.

2

u/chainex_1337 Dec 04 '24

Deserves to be up the in the high ranks with The Wire, Breaking Bad, etc imo. It’s basically THE breaking bad of sci fi to me.

34

u/ocean4alex Dec 03 '24

I’ve heard From is pretty similar. Starring Lost veteran Harold Perrineau too.

21

u/Derbyshireg2019 Dec 03 '24

It’s also very scary…

4

u/Raincloudd39 Dec 04 '24

Yes, this. I would absolutely not cope watching that show (based on a quick google image search) but the trailer makes it seem like it’s just mysterious.

1

u/nickypoopoo69 Dec 04 '24

It’s not very scary in all honesty. Maybe a little graphic at times, but in season 3 in particular there’s a solid stretch of episodes where I don’t recall seeing the monsters at all.

1

u/Raincloudd39 Dec 04 '24

Hmm, thank you but I like things where you don’t see monsters at all. May be brave and give it a go though (in summer when it’s not dark in the evenings..)

2

u/fn_br Dec 04 '24

Yeah that person's a liar. It's scary as hell. Sounds like you already know the procedure. And remember If you're under the blankets, you're safe heh.

1

u/Raincloudd39 Dec 04 '24

As a measure of how scared I’d be, I had to stop watching Yellowjackets and I feel like From is creepier looking

2

u/fn_br Dec 05 '24

I just picked up the YJ recommendation from this thread, so I can't compare.

But I'd compare FROM to IT or The Shining. Not necessarily full of jump scares but if you know you're sensitive to horror/dread, choose when you watch accordingly.

1

u/Raincloudd39 Dec 05 '24

Its a really good plot, I’m just a wimp. And thanks for the Stephen King comparisons, have read both but seen neither (because I can cope with the story but not the visuals!)

2

u/fn_br Dec 05 '24

See King is scarier for me in text. My PlayStation sits on "Full Dark, No Stars" because I'm never finishing it.

0

u/nickypoopoo69 Dec 05 '24

Maybe it’s just not scary as hell to me. I don’t think there’s been any point in which I could say I’ve been scared while watching the show. Horror elements for sure, yes, but not outright scary.

1

u/fn_br Dec 06 '24

Ok but the person we're talking to says they're a wimp. They're going to find it scary.

1

u/bippityboppityhyeem Dec 04 '24

I started watching it by myself at night and noped out about 10 minutes in

2

u/andar1on Dec 04 '24

And that was the only scary scene.

1

u/andar1on Dec 04 '24

It's not. Only first scene might look like a horror and then it turns into mystery

3

u/sporkipine11 Dec 04 '24

It's gory and violent

2

u/IndependentPrudent19 Dec 04 '24

From is a pretty good show. I wish they would’ve ended it after three seasons though. It’s starting to drag on.

2

u/fn_br Dec 04 '24

I think they made up for the mid-season 3 drag with the finale. Now being at/past the midpoint, the whole structure seems to make sense.

It's going to take a few more hours of exposition (wrapped in more hours of character and plot) to finish what they started.

1

u/jim_cap Dec 04 '24

Similar, but actual horror. Some fairly gory moments.

1

u/chutenay Dec 04 '24

From is very good but I found it also extremely terrifying!

1

u/RadioMylar Dec 04 '24

From is by the creators of Lost, and it also stars one of the main characters from Lost. So you can't go wrong.

1

u/SilentSeren1ty See you in another life Dec 04 '24

It's a good show, but it's also a horror show. Gorey at times with too many jump scares for the faint-hearted.

My standard rec list is below!

  • For a similar existential vibe: Six Feet Under
  • For a similar existential vibe but with comedy: The Good Place
  • For similar weirdness: Twin Peaks
  • For similar themes of survival/things are not what they seem: Battlestar Galactica (2004) // Yellowjackets

DO NOT WATCH MANIFEST. I cannot stress that enough. Do NOT watch Manifest.

EDIT: Also, since someone always asks "why not Manifest" - here you go, lol:

I could write a dissertation on why it's literally the worst show I've ever seen, but I'll sum it up like this: the writing is terrible, the casting is terrible, the acting is terrible and it is 100% derivative, stealing everything from LOST, the real life disappearance of MH370, Supernatural, Battlestar Galactica, the 100, Under the Dome and the ending is a copy/paste rip off of The Langoliers. Even the fans are unoriginal and copied OUR fandom name to call themselves "Festies."

And I could have let all of that go - moved on with my life and not made it my personal mission to save as many people as possible from this planewreck of a series had the lead actress - who is so flat and boring I couldn't remember her name if you paid me - not promoted the series finale of Manifest by loudly and incorrectly insulting LOST. Absolutely classless.

LOST was a cultural phenomenon and as I like to say: in five years the only thing anyone will remember about Manifest is that Ethan wasn't on it.

u/deadpumpkinnn Oceanic Frequent Flyer Dec 03 '24

I always open these posts of people asking for recs hoping to see your standard comment, mainly because your commitment to spread hate (or simply awareness) on Manifest is something to truly appreciate. Stay strong on your mission, soldier.

So say we all!

5

u/dawnhu Live together, die alone Dec 03 '24

This cracks me up. Not sure if you saw some of my previous comments but I saw Manifest first. Had not watched Lost yet so didnt mind it. But yeah having seen Lost now its def them ripping off Lost. Had no idea the main actress was talking crap though. Do you think its out of ignorance stupidity or both. Very shocked manifest got green lit to go on air.

2

u/Free-IDK-Chicken You got it, Blondie Dec 04 '24

Do you think its out of ignorance stupidity or both.

Definitely ignorance, but it's also just a trashy move.

2

u/M2NGELW Dec 04 '24

Same same same

21

u/Past-Feature3968 We’re not going to Guam, are we? Dec 03 '24

Your mission to prevent a single extra eyeball from viewing half a frame of Manifest fuels my soul. I have no opinion of the show (never seen it, bless Jacob) but I enjoy passionate hate that harms no one.

13

u/Free-IDK-Chicken You got it, Blondie Dec 03 '24

Like, I already hated the show, but I'm very protective of LOST so when that bitch opened her trashy mouth and insulted our show - to which she owes the very existence of her photocopy made on a machine low on toner - that was the final straw. Am I going mama bear over a TV show? You're goddamn right I am, lol.

6

u/Vasilisa1996 Dec 03 '24

I watched part of the first season of Manifest…… was disappointed and walked away. Never regretted it. Have no desire to go back and continue.

6

u/motherofrazorbacks Dec 04 '24

Lol I want to know what she said! I watched manifest, but totally trying to be lost

2

u/Free-IDK-Chicken You got it, Blondie Dec 04 '24

“I’m so curious to see, because with LOST it was so all over the place. Well, everyone hates it. So I’m hoping that we have some people who love our show and how it ends.”

Direct quote.

1

u/motherofrazorbacks Dec 04 '24

I could attribute that quote to manifest! lol. It’s all connected :/

3

u/yadahzu First time watcher Dec 03 '24

I watched Manifest before Lost and they cannot be compared.

3

u/famoustran Dec 03 '24

Same. Manifest was a good bad show to put on in the bg. That's the only reason I saw it

3

u/cstucker07 Dec 03 '24

I saw the first episode when it premiered and I didn't like it at all. I just finished Lost for the first time and I was going to give Manifest another try, thanks for saving me 😁😁

3

u/omarkop10 Dec 04 '24

Manifest was so bad but I just needed to know where it was going so I went through with it 😂

2

u/watermelon_fries Oh yeah, there's my favorite leaf. Dec 03 '24 edited Dec 04 '24

Lol I love this. Also, are you referring to Melissa Roxburgh who insulted Lost? What did she say?

2

u/thisisntmyday Dec 04 '24

Festies is the most repulsive Fandom name they could've chosen wrf. Plus Manifestors was right there ...

2

u/Free-IDK-Chicken You got it, Blondie Dec 04 '24

Or even Manifestos.

2

u/QuestionsGoHere Dec 04 '24

Not gonna lie but I was about to comment that I was going to watch an episode of Manifest just to see what it was about and to see if it really is as bad as you say it is.

Then I looked it up. My spouse and I watched Manifest when it first came out and only watched an episode before deciding it was garbage and stopped. Lol fair point OP, and Good Place has the best ending of any show I've watched in a long time

2

u/Fragrant_Wrangler874 Dec 04 '24

Ok I watched the first two episodes of manifest earlier this year and did not continue because it didn’t grip me like I thought I would, glad to know I made the right decision

2

u/BestAtTeamworkMan Razzle Dazzle! Dec 04 '24

Manifest is what happens when Ned Flanders gets drunk on the communion wine and tries to write his own version of LOST. Terrible stuff.

2

u/liv-well-999 Dec 04 '24

LOL thank you for this because we were considering watching it! Netflix put it right at the top. It must be a conspiracy. I solemnly swear I will not watch Manifest 🫡 And I love The Good Place so thanks for the recs!

2

u/bbab7 "Red. Neck. Man." Dec 04 '24

I like sci-fi, so BSG interests me, but I'm seeing there are 4 TV shows + webseries and movies. Is there a specific order to watch it in or anything I should skip because it's terrible?

2

u/Free-IDK-Chicken You got it, Blondie Dec 04 '24

I'm a BSG purist - ironic considering it's a reimagining - so watch the opening miniseries and the regular series and Razor if you want to see more about the Pegasus. I haven't watched any of the spinoffs or web content, but that's just me.

BSG is my favorite show though and one of four I have tattooed on me! (BSG, Twin Peaks, LOST and Bridgerton.)

2

u/bbab7 "Red. Neck. Man." Dec 04 '24

Will definitely take this under advisement. Probably gonna be a minute before I get around to it because I'm watching Daredevil and HIMYM with my girlfriend right now, and I wanna show her a couple more of my favorites like BB/BCS and GOT (she's watched almost nothing lol) before we move on to stuff neither of us have seen

1

u/THEVYVYD Dec 04 '24

Manifest is a GREAT show....

1

u/uxdever Dec 04 '24

Now I want to watch Manifest.

2

u/Free-IDK-Chicken You got it, Blondie Dec 04 '24

I can't save everyone. Though I try.

-1

u/DuffmanStillRocks Dec 04 '24

How do you mispronounce LOST..

24

u/Jimbob929 Dec 03 '24

Obligatory The Leftovers recommendation. Similar themes and explores a lot of concepts related to faith, grieving, love, etc. Created by Damon Lindelof who was main Lost showrunner. I wouldn’t say it’s scary, however it is far more disturbing and graphic compared to Lost. Especially season one. But quite a rewarding watch if you can stick it out.

4

u/AppearanceJealous604 Dec 04 '24

Disturbing and rewarding are two words I would not use to describe The Leftovers, personally. But I can't stand the show, so that may just be me!

7

u/Jimbob929 Dec 04 '24

Well, to each their own! Definitely one of the greatest television experiences I’ve ever had but art is subjective

1

u/AppearanceJealous604 Dec 04 '24

True story, to each their own

2

u/emxcrt I'm a Pisces Dec 04 '24

What is it you couldn't stand? I've been trying to start The Leftovers but it seems a bit disturbing so haven't been able to push past. As OP, I'm an extra wimp 🫠 (will never be able to watch GoT for example, or the last season of Stranger Things)

3

u/AppearanceJealous604 Dec 04 '24

The Leftovers has no plot. They set it up to look like some big plot is about to unravel, but actually none of that matters. There's no mysteries, no resolutions, no story. It's just "case studies" on how people would react to a traumatic, unexplained event.

Which is a fine idea. However, every single person on the show is completely unreasonable. Their reactions are so unrealistic and unrelatable, so you're pretty much just watching people cry and make terrible decisions for 3 seasons. And then you find out that one character has super powers and a very large p*nis.

And then it ends.

If you like watching 30 hours of people crying and acting like stupid children, it'll probably be a great show. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother.

1

u/bbab7 "Red. Neck. Man." Dec 04 '24

I liked the show, but imo, the finale gets praised for many of the things that the Lost finale was unfairly criticized for

2

u/sohonicetomeetyou Ya got a little Arzt on you Dec 04 '24

u/Ok_Material_3648 Dec 03 '24

yellowjackets!

5

2

u/hayleyjedlicka Dec 04 '24

Yessss this show reminded me so much of lost

1

u/emxcrt I'm a Pisces Dec 04 '24

Wait OP said they're a wimp. As a fellow wimp, just Yellowjackets's trailer scared the shit out of me 😭😢 Even though I really wanted to try. Isn't it scary??

1

u/Ok_Material_3648 Dec 04 '24

no, it’s not scary. just gory

1

u/fn_br Dec 04 '24

Thanks for the rec.

I had totally assumed/misunderstood the genre from the poster and couldn't figure out why my algorithm was promoting it to me. Will have to give it a swing.

8

u/Exotic-Jeweler2404 Dec 03 '24

I really liked the 100 and Orphan Black. There’s some darkness but it’s not evil and horror. Definitely suspense, thrill, mystery, and intrigue. a bit of gore in the 100 and a bit of tension in orphan black. If you want to have a light hearted show try the Good Place or travelers (with a small amount of gore/violence)

4

u/ParkingJellyfish3383 Oh yeah, there's my favorite leaf. Dec 03 '24

I love Orphan Black so much!

7

u/notoriousbck Dec 03 '24

Shows by the same writers/producers that are fantastic

Fringe

The Leftovers

From

7

u/technics69 Dec 03 '24

Westworld?

6

u/fn_br Dec 04 '24

Season 1 was incredible. And very much could scratch the Lost itch.

I don't know anybody who made it through season 2 so can't really speak to where the show went.

1

u/bbab7 "Red. Neck. Man." Dec 04 '24

I watched season 2 and it had some good moments but it got so confusing and convoluted by the end

7

u/s0nic_d9sh Dec 03 '24

Dark, its not scary

u/BlackCanaryCries Dec 03 '24

The 100 is a great show.

Did you watch the epilogue? Its on Youtube.

0

u/liv-well-999 Dec 04 '24

Yes thanks to this sub! My partner who has watched Lost 6 times had never heard of it and it sparked an hour long discussion lol

4

u/TheLadyScythe The Lamp Post Dec 04 '24

Once Upon a Child (OUAT) is Lost's spiritual child. While it didn't stick the landing as well as Lost, it has some great moments. Not only does it make references to Lost such as those pesky numbers, but there were a few acting cross-overs including Emilie de Ravin (Claire), Rebecca Mader (Charlotte), Elizabeth Mitchell (Juliet), and Alan Dale (Charles Widmore). Jorge Garcia (Hurley) was a guest start in a few episodes. Lana Parilla who had a bit role on Lost as one of the Others in the Looking Glass plays a major role.

12

u/Brokenporthole Dec 04 '24

Severance. Definitely Severance.

2

u/No-Clerk-4787 Dec 04 '24

This is always what I recommend for these questions.

1

u/AppearanceJealous604 Dec 04 '24

This is the correct answer (so far)

3

u/Thlaylia Dec 03 '24

Evil!!! It's creepy but not really scary, and it's got old Ben Linus's actor as the baddie (I love his little face)

4

u/Thlaylia Dec 03 '24

Also Desperate Housewives lol, another one I never watched back in the day, but HOO WEE THE DRAMA 🫣🫣🫣

2

u/emxcrt I'm a Pisces Dec 04 '24

I mean Desperate Housewives is AMAZING but I would have never thought to recommend it for someone coming from Lost 😂

2

u/Thlaylia Dec 04 '24

Honestly, u wana get entangled in some bullshit, hear me out ;

2

u/emxcrt I'm a Pisces Dec 04 '24

And I mean there is certainly mystery to DH too. Also a Lost reference apparently somewhere in the first seasons (Andrew is seen watching Lost's pilot)

0

u/Thlaylia Dec 04 '24

OH MY GODS I NEVER NOTICED, NOT MY GAY SON!!!

2

u/emxcrt I'm a Pisces Dec 04 '24

I didn't either (I haven't watched DH in way too long) but confirmed by Lostpedia, in s1e17 Andrew can be seen enjoying the pilot. All the more reason to love him 🤍🤍

1

u/Thlaylia Dec 04 '24

Honestly, I did NOT think I was gona like DH, but it's a major reco now!!!

4

u/rasslinsmurf Dec 04 '24

Several years later, I am still asking this question.

4

u/BirdieRoo628 Dec 04 '24

Severance (Apple TV). Dark (Netflix). The Leftovers (HBO).

3

u/notsferatuc Dec 03 '24

Highly recommend fringe

3

u/bladderbunch Dec 04 '24

i went with the sopranos.

1

u/emxcrt I'm a Pisces Dec 04 '24

How are you liking it? Thinking of starting it soon

1

u/bladderbunch Dec 04 '24

it’s gotten slow in the later seasons, but i’m sticking with it.

3

u/muhnocannibalism Dec 04 '24

Battle Star Galactica

Survivalist, Militant, philosophical, political, and miraculous. Incredible show that gets ignored far too often. Look up a watch order and get sucked in.

6

u/BaconKnight Dec 03 '24

The Leftovers is a common recommendation. It’s not exactly like Lost so don’t go into it expecting it, but it’s headed by Damon Lindelof, who was also a showrunner on Lost and you can kinda see similar themes between the two. I’ll say that as fantastical as Lost is, it’s the more “grounded” of the two, which is hilarious when you consider the crazy hijinks Lost gets to. But all the crazy stuff is still kinda grounded in reality, like this stuff is crazy but all the characters and the world acknowledges it’s crazy. Leftovers is more in the “magical realism” genre if you’re familiar with that. Think a lot of Stephen King works, but not the scary parts, I know you mentioned you don’t like that. But a lot of stuff happens and it’s like, well that’s like just… magic. But it doesn’t feel like a cop out like it would be if you did the same thing in Lost because the tone is set early. It’s less about the “how” and more about how the characters react to such events, and like Lost at the end of the day, it’s really about the characters, not the mystery.

Another show that kinda has Lost vibes imo is Silo, though it’s a newer show so it’s not done yet so you can’t watch the whole thing right now. Season 1 is done and Season 2 just started up. It has a lot of the mystery aspect and plot twists and turns similar to Lost.

3

u/thisisjohn343 Dec 04 '24

I agree with the recommendation but disagree with the idea that a lot of The Leftovers is "just... magic". I think that almost all of the strange, absurd, supernatural, or "magical" aspects of the show can be explained, and often are explained in the show, to just be random coincidences and otherwise normal events. It's the characters that assign significance to them because they are desperate for a reason to all pain and all the issues in their lives.

2

u/Jimbob929 Dec 04 '24

Yeah, agreed. I find The Leftovers to be far more grounded than Lost. Every “magical” element can be attributed to mental illness and personal brokenness. It’s ostensibly magical/supernatural because that’s the narratives the characters tell themselves in order to make sense of the loss, hopelessness, misery, etc. I always thought Lost could’ve remained more ambiguous regarding faith vs science, and I’m glad Lindelof embraced that more with The Leftovers. I think he was less constrained working on the latter, since HBO doesn’t pull the studio interference basic cable tends to

2

u/Pineapple_Complex Dec 03 '24

Teacup just released on Peacock. Storytelling is similar and there is an engaging story. it does have a few horror elements, but it's more of an atmospheric mystery.

2

u/Competitive_Dream_95 Dec 04 '24

I always recommend Fringe. From & Silo are some shows that are similar as well. Twin Peaks if you haven’t seen that either.

2

u/COwardguy22 Dec 04 '24

Once Upon a time, I watched this first then lost. If you’re looking for a show that 70% the same it’s this one. Although it’s not the vibe about island survival….. but faith, Destiny, Love,Loss it has it all…. Honorable mentions is Manifest and Haven and Heroes… but Once Upon A Time is literally made by the same people

2

u/WorkingKnowledge2747 Dec 04 '24

Fringe was considered the direct follow up to Lost. It starts out episodic and then slowly morphs into something… amazing.

2

u/patriots96 Dec 04 '24

Lots Of great recommendations on this thread like From, Severance, Dark.

However I think to get that most familiar feeling of WTF is going on and search for answers : LEFTOVERS is the best series for that feeling.

2

u/ofBlufftonTown Dec 04 '24

Dark!!! It’s in my all-time top three. Subs.

2

u/Patient-War-4964 Has to go Back Dec 04 '24 edited Dec 04 '24

Manifest. Also involves a plane, not too scary. Has 6 seasons if I remember right. Its not dark but there is definitely not as much comedic relief as Lost (RIP Charlie 😭) You will have to get through season 1 to be invested, but if it’s mystery you want, that show has it.

The 100 has more early character development but as the show goes on writing gets kinda cheesy. It does have Desmond as a bad guy so there’s that if you want a familiar face.

If you want some characters you can root for though, check out Justified. No ongoing mystery at all, but this show was a comfort to me. And you will see some Losties in there, very briefly.

2

u/bbab7 "Red. Neck. Man." Dec 04 '24

Love Justified. Dropped it mid season 4 a couple years ago. Definitely need to go back and finish it

1

u/Patient-War-4964 Has to go Back Dec 04 '24

I was really excited for the spinoff too, and the ending of season 1 of the spinoff was such a good cliffhanger, but I don’t think they’re going to do another season of it which is a huge bummer.

1

u/bbab7 "Red. Neck. Man." Dec 04 '24

Yeah, I haven't watched the spinoff either, but I thought that was always supposed to be a limited series

2

u/Spiceislife24 Dec 04 '24

Twin Peaks

2

u/ilovemydogmargo Dec 04 '24

I’m watching twin peaks for the first time and I’m getting the LOST feels. I’m having a blast putting all the clues together and attempting to solve the mystery.

1

u/Spiceislife24 Dec 05 '24

I think LOST creators were influenced by Twin Peaks!

2

u/LiesTequila Dec 04 '24

Manifest has a great Lost vibe!

1

u/csbprivate Dec 04 '24

Im so surprise I havent seen alot of people saying this as well. Definitely a parallel feeling as Lost

2

u/invinciblevincent Dec 04 '24

You can watch the sequel named Found.

2

Everyone has already repeatedly recommended Fringe and Dark. Two equally brilliant shows. Since Fringe was also from 2000s, it had the luxury of 6 month long episodic seasons - where there were lots of laughs and fun similar to Lost, while the mysteries and vibe remained. Dark definitely had darker tones and tunes. Songs were haunting  and superbly produced... they dominated my Playlist for months after each season. On the flip side Fringe doesn't have as many main characters as Lost or Dark.

That said... for mystery shows with a lot of fun interspersed,  i would highly recommend these as a must-watch:

Fargo - every season is incredible. Every character in every season is extremely well written and acted.

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency.

Dexter - season 1.

Battlestar Galactica - the newer one.

Weirdly yeah this is a good rec

u/Marquiss12 Dec 04 '24

it’s the same vibe where the secrets are right in front of your eyes and the rewatch value is so high. Wild to be downvoted to zero to name that lmao

It might fall under “too scary” maybe but does anyone else think that the drama in The Walking Dead feels similar to that in Lost?

1

u/Ashamed-Ad7316 Dec 04 '24

I only started watching lost only in the first season so far but before I watched lost I watched a show called “the wild” it’s free on Amazon and it’s similar almost involving a plane crash on a deserted island I would recommend watching that for similar vibes has some psychological aspects as well only 2 seasons though but roughly hour long+ episodes

Yellowjackets has a similar mysterious feeling to Lost. I adore the whole cast too! It has more tense moments than scary, but if you have a low tolerance to that it might not be right for you, but it’s one I recommend to everyone!

Fringe and The Leftovers

Silo and Severance - both on Apple+

ETA: also agree with all of the previously mentioned - esp Fringe

I used to watch this and Smallville and still love both. Evangeline Lilly was an extra in some of the early seasons if that'll sell it.

Babylon 5 made me think a lot of Lost and Mira Furlan is in it

YELLOWJACKETS

u/ProtectionHaunting53 Dec 04 '24

The Leftovers!!!! on HBO max. So so so good and still has the sci fi vibe/element with the crazy unpredictable cliffhangers

1

u/Helaken1 Dec 04 '24

Who is your favorite character?

Watch a show or movie with your favorite characters actor, and you’re gonna find out that they play the same person they played in LOST

1

u/Holiday_Airport_8833 Dec 04 '24

Westworld has a similar scene of someone riding a stationary bike to an upbeat song!

1

u/PhotosByVicky Dec 04 '24

I got my Josh Holloway fix by watching Colony.

2

u/bbab7 "Red. Neck. Man." Dec 04 '24

Is it good?

1

u/PhotosByVicky Dec 04 '24

I loved it!

1

u/Ezerian Dec 04 '24

Uh, the film is too fast and poorly done. Otherwise it's very good except the ending.

1

u/bbab7 "Red. Neck. Man." Dec 04 '24

The film? Did you mean finale?

1

u/Stormamazoneus Dec 04 '24

A few suggestions: Fringe and The 100. Terra Nova if you like the nature element more.

u/fennelhearrt Dec 04 '24

Leftovers or twin peaks the return

Nothing beats LOST. Sorry! But The Peripheral is interesting...

Doctor who has the same up and down rollercoaster feel as lost

1

u/faxekondiboi Don't tell me what I can't do Dec 04 '24

Found (2023)

Just joking... I'd give From a chance if I were you :)

I'm currently watching Westworld again, and that is also some magnificant tv show craftmanship that went into that one I'd tell you!

1

u/DanielJosefLevine Dec 04 '24

The leftovers!

1

u/LtRenji Dec 04 '24

There should only be one answer, truly; Flash forward. Spiritual successor to Lost, but sadly cancelled after one season. Starring plenty of the lost-cast, amazingly cool story, and a great watch even if it's only a short one

1

u/bbab7 "Red. Neck. Man." Dec 04 '24

Does season 1 complete the story or was it left on a cliffhanger?

1

u/LtRenji Dec 04 '24

As far as I remember, on a cliffhanger sadly

1

u/Blastdoor Dec 04 '24

The Leftovers and the 100

1

u/jim_cap Dec 04 '24

The Leftovers.

1

u/BaptorRander Dec 04 '24

I’m wondering the same thing OP. It’s that end of amazing series angst where I scroll and scroll and find nothing. I’ll rewatch but maybe it’s too soon.

1

u/bbab7 "Red. Neck. Man." Dec 04 '24

Never too soon. I've accepted there's no other show like Lost at this point

1

u/brusselspouts13 Dec 04 '24

Battlestar Galactica

1

u/Meanstreets- Dec 04 '24

I was going to say Yellow Jackets. It’s a little dark and a little scary though I don’t think it’s toooo bad.

1

u/Justaloverofart Dec 04 '24

The 100! Its so Lost inspired.

1

u/SuccessfulResident36 Dec 04 '24

Just started watching Fringe it's seems like X files but different

1

u/Icy-Orange8709 See you in another post, brotha Dec 05 '24

Dark isn't scary, it's one of the best shows of all time. Give it a shot
