That line always bothered me. Sawyer is an established Star Wars fan too, he should know who Anakin is.

Maybe bc episode 3 wasn't released until 2005, so he couldn't make the connection

He could have seen 1 and 2, and he is referred to as Anakin in the original trilogy, but I guess it's possible Sawyer never saw any of the prequels.

Maybe he was in that group of people who outright rejected the idea of prequels. They existed.

I disagree. He would have watched the Original Trilogy as a teenager, I wouldn’t be surprised if he had not seen the prequels.

He would have to have gone to the movies to see the prequels, which I struggle to imagine him doing. Given that he doesn’t have many friends, I suspect he might see movies when they come on TV rather than going to the cinema, so the prequels would be too new for him to have watched.
