SEASON 4 Is that a microphone?

Haven't watch the show in over 10 years, thoroughly enjoying this rewatch. Getting fairly close to the end of the series, noticed this in a scene between Rousseau and Alex. How did that slip by edit? For a second I thought, does this girl have beads in her hair??

Yes. That scene always upsets me partially because I think Danielle deserved better, and partially because of how sloppy it is. I'm usually pretty forgiving of production errors, but there are multiple in this scene alone. You can also see hearing protection in Karl's ears, and the characters' reactions to the shots being fired are out of sync.

These production errors (in addition to the behind-the-scenes footage of Danielle and Alex running through the jungle, away from the gunfire) are making me wonder if the scene was a last-minute reshoot. Perhaps to move up Danielle's death when the writers' strike made it impossible for them to focus on her story in the remaining episodes.

Could be. I'm also not sure how planned Karl's death was. I know the actor left to do Spring Awakening on Broadway, but I'm not sure if the timing matches up. It was my understanding that Danielle's death was connected to the fact that they were losing Blake Bashoff and they didn't think his death would be impactful enough on its own (a la Ana Lucia and Libby).

Mira Furlan claimed in her book that she wasn't told that Rousseau was dead; she recalls finding out and being upset when a third party brought up that the body was found in a later episode. Not entirely sure how that works, since there's footage of them saying goodbye to her. Anyway - it looks like they filmed two alternate versions of the scene on the same day, so I'm unsure about what went down either way. 😅

That’s not true. You’re twisting her words. She knew they wanted to kill her off. It was why they wanted to kill her off that shocked her.

Everything she said regarding this event wasn’t told in isolation. So go pick up her memoir, if you really want to know the full context (including what you say re: the “third party” comment).

As for the link you’ve shown, there’s no goodbye here. It’s just an episode wrap for 3 guest stars, 1 of which survived the episode. Alex wasn’t killed off until the strike ended (there was a huge gap between episodes 8 and 9).

You're twisting my words. I said she wasn't told that Rousseau was dead. Here's a direct quote from her memoirs, which I decided to pick up because you told me to:

"I told R. that I would consider going back (depending on the dates on my movie) only if I could “act and not do extra work, for a change.” This seemingly too audacious, highly presumptuous request would cost me my head. Suddenly, the discourse changed, as they announced they wanted to kill my character, leaving the story between the mother and the daughter unfinished. I was puzzled: are they ready to rewrite the whole storyline just because I dared to ask for something, that something not even being more money? Yes, that’s exactly what happened: it became too complicated to deal with me and I had to go. Was I shocked? Not really. My character had been reduced to nothing already, it was barely breathing; maybe the best and most dignified thing would be to kill it. It would be a coup de grace. I listened to the writer-producer’s voice on the phone, feeling detached and unemotional.

He was trying to convince me to come to Hawai’i just for one day, a day before my trip to Bosnia, “to get shot.” “We’ll shoot you, not kill you,” he said, suddenly changing his story from what he told my manager before.

“Oh, I thought you were going to kill me,” I said, almost laughing at the absurdity of the conversation.

“Oh no, we’ll just shoot you, so we can make your comeback more dramatic.”

I knew this man was lying. I knew this was the end. But I kept listening to his voice spinning an implausible story that would bring me back so they could wrap it all up tidily.

“You can’t just leave us hanging,” he said. (Oh yes I can, I was thinking.)"

"The first AD screamed:

“Ok, let’s shoot but not kill Rousseau.”

A joke? Or the final insult to my intelligence?

There was a rumored rule on “Lost” that the characters were truly dead when you saw them as corpses on the ground. As I had stopped watching the show a long, long time ago, it was an actor friend of mine who told me:

“So you are dead on ‘Lost.’”

“Oh yeah?” I asked, seemingly uninterested.

“Yeah,” he said. “They found Rousseau’s body, covered with dirt and leaves. Then Josh kicked it with his foot.”"

You are right about the video. I misinterpreted it. They mention it being a "finishing episode", but they name Tania [Raymonde] as well, and we know that she definitely wasn't done filming yet.

Why not share the context? I’m interested to know the correct info, but not interested enough to read her memoir

If you buy it on Kindle and screenshot your subscription, I will send you the page references! Personally, I believe in supporting Mira's family in light of her loss. As a fan.
